Does anyone know how this much corrosion builds up like this? I have not touched the coolant once even to add coolant. While I had not flushed it either, I would not have expected coolant to be bad after only four years. I had seen the hotlight come on once in four years on a 50 degree day when it was idling so I immediately knew there was an issue when it came on in perfect conditions new year's weekend, but I may have missed all of my riding opportunities for the year now.

I managed to get about half of the passages cleared this weekend with CLR, but I have a new radiator coming since the rest will not. The rest of the system seems completely clear, and the radiator seemed to act as a filter. The sled was not run for more than a half hour during last winter since we did not have any real snow. One could not really tell there was much corrosion from looking into the radiator with the coolant drained, but I poured hot deionized water in it when I was flushing the radiator and none of the passages heated up.

Now that the issue is corrected, I plan on going with 50-50 premix.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Yamaha recommends changing the coolant yearly. I've been flushing mine every other year and have never noticed any signs of plugging. I would not have expected it to look like that after 4 years.

Ainti freeze does wear out, it becomes acidic with age. On diesil engines you take a continuity tester and put one lead in the coolant and ground the other one to the engine block and the worse the anti freeze is the better the conection.

I remember a post on this site that was talking about a bad relay or something causing the rad to hold an electrical current when the sled was running. I can't specifically remember what it was about but I wonder if that would cause build up like that. Thats excessive even for an '08. wow

Well, there's another thing to check this summer... That could also be causing some of these over heating issues some are posting about.
