My Apex developed a bit of a raspy sound the other day after a little spill over a snow bank. I was going up a bank and the other side dropped off rapidly causing the sled to go on its brake side, it wasn't hard or fast(didn't even scuff the side panel). The sled appears to be running fine and ran great all the way home (150-200 miles), it sounds a little louder than normal kind of like a modded air box. I also noticed a squeal like a worn serpentine belt on a car, it sounds like it is coming from the belt. When I started riding this morning it wasn't doing it like the night before, but after 10-15 miles it started again.
I have a stock Apex except for what is listed in my sig.

P.S. I LOVE my Yami, currently selling my rev!

sounds like maybe the air box came loose from the throttle bodies when she went over... Not sure but this is something to check.. not sure about the squeel unless some oil of something made its way to the clutches...

I will check the sled in the AM, would riding with a loose air box cause any damage? I am not getting any codes.
Thanks!

shouldn't hurt anything unless you suck in a bunch of snow or something and you would know if you did that..

Thanks shanks!
I didn't get a chance to check it like I wanted today, but instead I spent the whole day working on the Rev Again...

hey pureadrenaline, I'm going to venture a guess and say either the air box is loose, or you may have a y-pipe/donut leak that was made worse with some chassis flex due to the spill. I think you may have spilled alittle coolant from the bottle that got on the clutch and thats the prob there.
BTW I'm doodown87 from dootalk and just want to say thanks for all the help a month ago with helping me decide on an apex!! your right its so much better then the rev. I had $2,000 into the rev just to get it half way where wanted it and my new apex is great minus needed the rtx skid swap, or at least mono shock beefing up, lol! I picked up an 06 er with 2,800 miles cheap, $4200 to be exact, locally needing exhaust donuts and some other little things. Donuts were done, as well as full service. Have put about 500 miles on it thanks to finally getting snow, lol! going to do some personalizing/powder coating and skid swap/ or work over the off season.
I am surprised how much better the apex is on the trail then the rev was, especially with the revs great trail rep.. oh well, happy to move on.

Yeah I am planning on pulling the sled apart this summer and having a look at the exhaust and pulling the suspension to check for any cracks and have it powder coated. I am going to check the airbox before starting another day of working on the rev, if that doesn't fix the sound then I will dig a little further. One thing I suggest you get is a set of silverstar bulbs if it doesn't already have them, they are a HUGE upgrade. I just recently put the stock ones back in after one of the silverstars burnt out and they are terrible. Thats a killer deal for a Apex, I had a guy put a deposit on my rev for $4,500 the other day, but now can't get it started...

i havent ridden it yet at night at all, so havent experienced that yet. I will look into it though as I ride after work usually alot though.
got a quick ? for ya on the mono. I have an apex rtx skid that I can have for free swapped into my sled.. Do you think I can get the mono to ride rough trails without bottoming and still ride flawlessly through studders like it does stock, or should I ditch the mono and go rtx skid? Hard decision to make, but the damn mono bottoms on anything fast and bigger...
As for the rev, whats the symptoms, maybe I can help you get it going to get it sold.

Anyone who weighs over 180lbs and likes to ride hard needs to send thier rear shock to pioneer performance and have the shock revalved and a stiffer spring installed. These suspensions are setup for a guy who weighs 160lbs to ride groomed trails and the valving in the shock is terrible. For a mear $170 pioneer will send you shock back to you ready to install and very well updated...
This skid will never be a mogul masher but it can be made to ride alot better with a simple revalve and stiffer spring.. The RTX skid is maybe a little better in the big hard bumps but not nearly as good in the studders and groomed stuff.. And, most say the RTX skid needs to have the shocks revalved too before it rides decent... IMO, if you want the best ride you can get, Id have the shock revalved, a stiffer spring installed, and once you have another extra $200 send your arms to half baked powder coatings for the beef up kit... Once they install the beef up kit you can smash your skid all day and not worry about breaking the front "W" arm.. Much, much better once these things are done...
Every sled has its downfalls. With doos and poos its the motor, with yammis its the suspension.. If you beef up your arms, install the revalved shock and better spring, your skid will be ten times what it was stock.. Once you get that done, you will have on hell of a reliable sled to ride....

My freind owns a shock service/sled shop so I can get all shock work done here for near free, he's hygears worst enemy here in ny, lol! I'm not worried about that. I simply need to decide which skid is best for me, and then the shocks will be built for that skid.
The mono currently needs alot of work. Needs the half baked set-up, needs new shock adjuster cable, needs a good 4 wheels plus one wheel mount, and then the shock work. The rtx skid is near new, just needs mounting and shock rebuilds/revalves. But I want the best ride over all. I love the mono for studders and want to retain at least near that. Every doo I ever had rode terrible in studders, great in moguls. I want both this time!
PureAdrenaline: if you need any help let me know whats going on with the doo, I'll talk to my buddy whos a skidoo tech and see what he thinks. Just let me know, I'll help you get that sucker sold!!

I don't think I will be much help as far as the mono vs RTX skid goes since I have yet to try a RTX out, but if the mono is in that bad of shape then it might be worth the swap.
On a good note I was able to get the rev running, I wasn't getting fuel and had to change the fuel pump, then start the sled 4-5 times by putting a few drops of gas in the cylinder, eventually gas made its was all the way threw the system. I do have some back firing and need to get some new plugs for it, hopefully I will be back on here tomorrow with a big smile on my face and a wallet filled with 100s.
I will tell you I am a little jealous of your purchase, if I seen it we might have had to fight for it...

Well I got it running, but it is backfiring and has no low end power. I changed the plugs and hoped that would help some, I think it did help but not much. I am scrambling to figure this out because I have the guy who gave me a deposit coming today to take it for a ride and hopefully take it home with him. I have had terrible luck with water in the gas, not sure if its that again or not.

Something's not right with either carbs / gas or both. I would get some good gas, higher octane, put in some startron and let it run through alittle with that and see if that helps.

My neighbor come over today to take a look at the sled when he heard the sled backfiring and running rough. He had me pull the plugs and feel for pressure, the PTO side felt great, but the mag side didn't do a thing. Since I already had the airbox off he put his hand over each carb and had me attempt to start the thing, the PTO side sucks your hand right in and the mag side didn't do a thing. So this leads me to believe the mag side is bad, there are 4800 miles on the sled already rebuilt once and needs it again. I know if I buy another 2 stroke it will be new and have the best warranty provided.
On a possible good note I contacted the dealership I purchased it from and they seem to want to make things right. I am going to give them another call tomorrow and try and work out a deal, either $4,500 (what I had it sold for) or a trade of equal or greater value.
