Reality is setting in

my 00 ford diesel 1 ton gets about 22-26 mpg, of course better on real hot days. It is paid for, and all I had to do to get that mileage was 4" exhaust for 800, and hypertech chip for 750. I always laugh at the guys that have to run out and buy another car or truck to get mileage, spend anywhere from 5000-25000 t buy another vehicle because gas prices are high.
I am going to ride Revy every chance I get, it is 10-12 hours one way, and likely it will be only the 2 of us going, like always, but I will try harder to find a couple more guys that can chip in for diesel.
I have a philosophy, maybe its wrong, but its mine. Live now, have fun, be insured. I dont see myself living long enough to retire, no one in my Dad's family hit retirement, we all have bad hearts. So, we have toys, go on trips, and we all have a helluva lot of fun, while we are young. Besides, if I do get old, I will sell the toys and big house, move into something smaller and become the worlds oldest porn star LOL.

You guys have really big trucks with big engines in them. I know those popular in the States, but can you really get decent milage with a big V8 or even V10? Gas or diesel.

I have -05 Toyota Corolla Wagon D4D. Yeah, I know, a small ricecup. But with our fuel prices and car prices, it´s the one for me. Those big pick-ups and truck are really rare here. My ride has a 1.4 LITRE TURBODIESEL ENGINE ON IT. It has 90 hp with 200 nm of torgue, and it still can tow a two sled trailer with no problem. Without the trailer it takes 4.3 litres of diesel / 100km , that is about 50+ mpg. With my max on the trailer it gets around 7 litres / 100 km. Litre of diesel costs here 1.05 euros ( about 1,3 USD / litre ).

Different country different cars I think.

It´s a normal passenger car. Just smaller than a Camry.

Mighty, did you get this sled yet? I live in southern IL, just 30 min from St Louis, and the local dealer has 2 Attaks and 2 Apex's on the floor. If you don't have yours yet, I'd say something is wrong. This dealer sells 10 new sleds max a season.

You guys are lucky, I travel 625 miles one way to ride, and usually do it 2 or 3 times/season. Don't know about this year though. And I have to believe that 4 or 6 cyl do not do as well on gas as the v8's when towing. I've talked myself into buying a couple v6's and have always been sorry when it came time to tow up north. I'm on my 3rd Yukon XL and love it. I average 10-12 mpg's when towing the 27' enclosed and around 15 when towing the open 3-placer. None of my v6's came close to that with the open trailer.

TC1, I spoke with the dealer yesterday afternoon and was told that my sled was on a semi somewhere between the dealer and Chicago. They said they expected it today. We'll see :?
I have a sneaky suspision that the new dealer sold my Attak and then had to find me another one.

Dan once you have it all your fears and second guessing will disappear. I still cannot believe how far you guys travel to ride, talk about dedication. Guess I am just spoiled.

Diesel is the way to go. Better gas mileage than similar-sized gas engines and more torque. How can you go wrong? Plus, if you really can't pay for gas, get a biodiesel fuel kit for like $1400 and make your own fuel.

Decent riding for me is at least a 3 hour drive one way in a vehicle that gets the same gas milage my piece of $hit machz's use to get.

With 2 kids in college, I'm wondering if I can afford this sport this year or in years to come :ORC

Hey Mighty,

You could leave your Attak in my garage, and drive up in a compact. All it will cost is a few weeknight trips to Trout Lake on it, I'll even top-it off for ya when I return ;) LOL

I averaged 16-17 MPG on highway...no load. With trailer, 9 MPG. Oh Yeah...did you pull that load of rocks 700 KMS?? :ORC I pulled a double trailer and 2 sleds that far and averaged 9-10MPG over that distance and buddy's Yukon got about 13MPG.....we stopped taking my truck because it was too expensive.

What...did you get 15MPG through town.....give me a break :?

20+ on the highway no load. The new 4.0's do 26 mpg. The 2.5's do 34.

I actually moved a very significant amount of rock with it. About 40 loads of 175 km. That makes 7000 (thousand) kms.

15 city actually sounds about right.

I'm telling you, something was wrong with yours. My '88 was old TBI injection, you had newer MPFI, so it should have used less than mine.

There is a big difference between hauling rocks and towing a parachute. With an enclosed trailer you are fighting air resistance. It's not the wieght. You would have to be so deep in the throttle all the time with 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder that the mileage gains if any would be minimal. For the same reason that the old Thundercats used to get the best gas mileage of any of the Arctic Cat sleds. Most of the time you are barely in the throttle.
