Hey all,
2009 Apex LTX GT, 600 miles. Put it up in the air for first service and all looks good except the studs are hitting the rear cooler. The dealer I bought it from studded it with I think 104 (2 per paddle). Looks as though they are 1.450 or 1.50 studs. They are NOT hitting anywhere else, just the rear cooler! Now the track was way loose, like 2.5" sag with 22lbs hanging on it and although I haven't seen 100 mph I've been close. Could it be that the track being so loose caused this? Or should I be asking why the dealer they didn't use 1.325's? Also, how to get to the oil filter?

the 1.325, you'll get zero traction, the 1.450 are better, this why i didn't put a rear cooler, was afraid 1.450 studs would hit

Rear cooler is stock on my sled ('09). It just seems wierd because there is a shield in the tunnel that seems way closer to the track and there's not a mark on it. Also no hitting at the front cooler.

You need guards over the exchanger and the oil filter is on the front of the engine accessed by removing the air box, battery and holder.

i have 1.325 on my 09 rtx and my studs hit the protective plate about 8 inches in from of my cooler. it covers the exhaust pipe and it actually tore it in 2. kind of worried about tearing my pipe now.

The exchanger gets hit on hard landings.

Where to get rear exchanger protector? And what's it made out of?

Custom fabbed one. You can get square aluminum tubing at Home depot.bwilly said:Where to get rear exchanger protector? And what's it made out of?

You can't put a rear heat exchanger on the ltx without a protector.

I got the sled with 0 miles. The rear cooler is factory. With no protector.

Well does it come factory with studs?
Like many sleds if you put studs on you need to protect the heat exchanger or the tunnel. You can bend some tubing and jerry-rig it or you can take it to a shop and have them affix it to the cooler. Does it have a tunnel protector? Maybe that would stop it from bottoming out?

Thanks wise guy. It's just that I've owned 12 sleds over the years. Where we ride studs are a necessity. All of the others had studs and never had to add protectors. Also, I spent a lot of time on this site before taking the 4-stroke plunge and haven't really seen to many posts on this issue. Fab work is part of my job so it's no big deal.

Sorry could not resist (also missed the part about being stock) it is strange they wouldn't make a provision with a factory install.
