This my first Yamaha sled. I can't wait for the snow to fly so I can try it. The question I have is about the rear shock. Does anyone know what rider weight they are valved for from the factory. I drove Polaris the last 8 years and always had my rear shock re valved for my weight. I weight about 235 with out gear. Is it necessary to have the shock on the Yamaha re valved or is there enough adjustment to compensate for this? Or do you change the coil over spring to a heavier one.

Thanks

some have used the bigboy spring(for the MONO skid) but IMO the best way to get a good ride and not bottoming,is to have it revalved.....Bruce at Pioneer does an awesome job! He makes it so its still nice and plush but then get stiffer near bottom, better then stock.

I just sent mine to pioneer. Im having the fat boy spring installed and the shock revalved but Im 6'6" 285lbs so I def. needed the fat boy spring. Im thinking that with your gear on, if you ride agressive at all, you may want to put on the stiffer spring also but others who weight closer to your weight may be able to answer that question better...

I see your from Nova Scotia.. My family has a camp and a house on the ocean in Cape Breton Island, near margaree forks. We go up there every summer. Last summer we were only able to stay 10 days but this year we are going for at least 14 days and Im bringing my Rhino so I can do some riding in the highlands.

Welcome to the site and the worlds best snowmobile. I rode polaris for 15 years and I finally got sick of rebuilding motors every 2000 miles and the last time my xc 700 blew I bought an RX-1 and never looked back. The silky smooth, incredible torque of these motors rocks...

I agree with dan 100% about the revalve, just becareful alot of shops want to sell you a spring as well, just do the revalve first and ask about there dule rate revalve jpb,one rate for the small stuff and one for the big hits, enjoy!!

Thanks for the replies. I am looking at a shop here in NS that rebuilt my Polaris shocks. Looks like I will try the revalve first and go from there.

Shanksyamaha. We do a lot of sledding in the CB highlands. I live about 1.5 hours from Baddeck. Not to far to trailer for some really nice sledding. You should make a trip up in the winter. We have some really nice trails up here as well. Just watch out for the moose!!!!

I havn't had a chance to make it up there in the winter yet. Id like to go up sometime for a week or so and ride, I have heard there is some good riding in the highlands. Its just shy of 1000 miles one way though so I need to have atleast 10 days off from work to make it worth the trip. Prolly not this winter but maybe next...

i would re-valave & add big boy spring with your size.
my sled was night & day after rebuild & spring. best upgrade i've done to increase handling & comfort. (next to snowtrackers)

www.shocktec.ca recommended to me to try my shock with the stock spring first. He revalved for my weight, 230lbs.
If the revalve doesn't satisfy me, then he said he would do the fata$$ srping.

So I would say, even if you are in Nova Scotia, you can send that to Ontario and save any border troubles and still get the shock back in a week.

do the spring also. the 6.5 should get you by on the second clip setting. or maybe even the 3rd clip and the cam ramps backed down. with your weight though youll want the spring.

i think there valved for a guy that weighs about 450

Everyone is calling it the big boy spring, But there are many different springs that can be installed. Talk to your shock tec for the proper sized spring, and then they will revavle for that spring. I live by Pioneer so they do mine while I wait. They will ask You many different questions too. Ie: (riding style)

Pioneer has a nice form on their website that you can down load and fill out and send with your shock. It asks all of those questions (weight, riding style, etc...)

i'm 215 without gear, shoktec put in the 6.5. works great.
although if i ride hard i can still bottom it. very rare but i can.
i would not stay with stock.
frank at shock tec will fix you up.

Just got off the phone with frank at shocktek... when i was tlaking to him he opened my box said he would have them done today back in the mail tomorow.... GREAT service... shipped from NB and with a 1-1 1/2 day turnaround... wow... cant complain...
