Rear suspension maintenance?

I am seriously considering an RS series Yamaha. Question I have is what needs to be done for maintenance of the rear suspension, such as lubrication of all pivot points-they don't have any grease fittings like some other makes, correct? Haven't looked at the sleds up close-hope to next week at the preview show.

I'm not sure about the new 2005 skids but on my 03 RX there are ~7 grease zerks on the rear skid. I usually try to grease them every other trip or so....
 
Suspension lube points

I noticed Yamaha favors the grease zerks that they tack-weld. Any problems with them coming out, breaking off?

Also, noticed they don't have a cover over the front shock in the rear skid-an issues with damage to the shaft or seal w/o this protection?

I have never broken off a grease zerk on a Yamaha sled - not saying that it can't be done, but I haven't had any issues.

As for the shock cover - I haven't had any problems there either, but if you want the 'extra protection', check out www.mountainperformance.com they stock those fabric shock covers.
 
I have broken plenty, on various Yamaha products. Told the dealer that Yamaha should supply customers with a grease fitting for the grease guns. Problem is that the nipples they use are not exactlly the right size for the grease guns that we use in North America. Solution??? Go to your auto parts supply store near you and purchase standard grease nipples used in the automotive industry and change them. Not hard to do, they come out easy, and will save you broken nipple problems.
 
you can pump all the grease you want into the fitting,nothing helps the plastic bushings in the end of the shocks,the fra pivot points or the a-arm bushings in the front,to replace them all(all bad after 7000 miles)was about 200,where there was grease it wasnt a problem but where you cant grease,get ready to pay cause they arent covered and they will be worn out,you cant really tell until you pull the skid out cause you cant really see them that good but if you have over 5000 miles they are going fast,most arent too bad,from 1.50-2.50 each except the outer a-arm bushings,10.00 each and you need 4 of each,oh well gonna play gotta pay
