I live in IL and am heading to WI to pick up a new sled on Saturday. I may continue on after an already 6 hr journey 4 more hours to get to Minocqua or where ever there is snow.

My question is this: if I live in IL and buy a sled in WI and don't go back to IL for a few days, how do I register it in IL so I can get a WI trail permit?

thanks
joel

If your buying in Wis. register it in Wis. then you wont need a trail permit for Wis. or Ill. I guess that only would apply if you own property in Wis.

You don't have to own property to register your sled in Wisconsin or Minnesota. If you're buying the sled in Wisconsin and never ride in Illinois, then I would just register it in WI and save having to buy an out of state sticker each year. ;)!

A dealer in Wisco can register an IL sled w/ IL dnr.
So yes you can continue up north from buying your sled. As long as your dealer does not get lazy the should be able to get your sled registered.
Have fun

Just take a IL. reg form with you & fill it out like you did send it in!
Take your copy off & put in your pocket!
NO PROBLEM!

Whoo Hoo!!! I just got off the phone with a lady at the WI DNR southern region 608-743-4800 Janesville office, and told her my situation. She said I could pay the taxex in WI, and register my sled in WI. I do not have to have a mailing address in WI and the sled does not have to be stored in WI. I can live in IL and store the sled in IL.

It's starting out as a great day,
joel

thanks for everyone's help... now we just need snow

Yep that is what I do, I regiseter mine in MN but live in IA, works out great because as long as I have a MN registration I do not need a IA one and I do little riding in IA.

I have started doing the same thing in Michigan. I live in Indiana but primarily ride in Michigan so I register it there. I would rather give Michigan my money anyway because Indiana doesn't give crap about sledders and does nothing for them!

Just remember that IF you do ride in Ill. and get stopped by the DNR they WILL ticket you for improper registration. If your driver license is in IL you need to register in IL. Not that we get that much snow anymore but just to let you know.
