Relocation of Vent Filter

I relocated my vent filter for my ECP kit to the area of the steering post. It is high up and tucked in out of the way from everything. I made a bracket that attaches to one of the bolts at the bottom of the steering post and attached my filter to it. I ran a 5/8 heater hose that was about 20 inches long from the filter by going around my engine, under the two fuel hoses and underneath the fuel pumps to the stock catch box . I believe the heat of the engine will heat the hose and keep any ice from forming. I have ran this set up for 500 miles and have had no problems with freeze ups or blowing oil mist. My next step will be to vent the valve cover for added protection.

Thanks Freddie, it means alot to me that you took time out of your day to comment on my post and that you like it to.... :4STroke:

Freddie, I was thinking of placing my vent filter under the handlebar pad. This will expose the filter and vent system to the low pressure area created by the windshield. This has been done with carb vents before with good results. I may not be able to try this myself anytime soon but I would like to hear your thoughts on this. It certainly would provide less vacuum than venting directly into the filters and prevent the carbs from becoming dirty as they inevitably will with the vents run into the filters. I know this will happen as I have had the throttle body cleaned a couple of times on my truck and the mechanic told me it was because the crankcase is vented into the air intake.

I have been pm'd numerous times asking how the relocation worked out. I would like to update everyone. I have 800 miles on my sled since I relocated the airfilter. I have no oil mist problem and have had no freeze ups. I have run in tempertures of -10 to 45 degrees. I believe that the high air filter location keeps the oil mist from blowing out. I also believe that the heater hose I used is a thicker hose then the stock one and insulates from the cold better. I also believe the location of the hose running near the engine warms the hose and prevents freeze ups as well.... ;)!

Freddie, do think that us guy's that are planning on doing this mod could just put a tee in at the valve cover hose and tee it into the line coming up from the catch can to the steering column ? I want to do this but would like to know if I can get away with using only one filter.

Thanks for any input guy's.

GOT TO LOVE THIS SITE.

I used only one filter with my application with a tee in the line coming from the original catch can.

sorry for the picture quality, had to shrink them down to make them fit.

TMSSP05,

What did you use to replace the valve cover plug? I think I like this better than the EVAC that connects back into the filters.

I recall Freddie having good things to say about the EVAC kit into the filters and that it made more power. I wonder how this one will "stack" up (no pun intended). ;)!
