Anyone have any tips on how to get the damn bearing off the speedo side of the drive shaft. Som-B is siezed up on that thing, and I did remove the two set screws. Just replaced it 2500miles ago, but man its on there. I was thinking some penetrating oil and then some heat???

Help!

Thanks

John

I use a big flat screwdriver and stick it up from the underside between the inside of the drive axle bearing and the outside of the left drive sprocket flange. Usually there's about 1/8" clearance and you can get a screwdriver in there and turn it to get the bearing to slide. Then it's a matter of working the bearing off using the screwdriver. To prevent this issue the next time, use some anti seize between the bearing and axle to keep it from corroding. Also make sure to clean the axle shaft with some sandpaper or steel wool before sliding on the new bearing.

I would soak it with some aero kroil it is the best stuff out there. They usually come off rather easily,I just used a flat head to pop it off the shaft. If you are replacing it,just let it soak with some penetrating lube and beat it off with out scoring the shaft. Sometimes they get caught up were the set screw scores the shaft, try to hold the shaft and get some vise grips or pliers and pull and turn the bearing at the same time. Good Luck

Heat then hit it with water. do this a couple of times and i find it frees things up. BEE CAREFUL YOUR GAS TANK TUBE VENT IS RIGHT THERE IN THE CROSS TUBE. right above the speedo.
I usually take the chaincase apart so i can slide the shaft and bearing to the left and then a wheel puller on it works every time.

what kind of track are you putting on it? doing mine this summer.

We're still talking about drive shaft bearings right?

If you use lithium base wheel bearing grease or a marine grease which is wax based it will not was out like the petroleum based greases do. Works much better as a low temp never seize than never seize does IMO.
