I am thinking of pulling the Ohlins rear shock in lue of a mechanical adjust rear shock. The two I have looked at online is the Hygear Custom Axis and the Elka Stage 2. I did do a little search on here for anyone that has tried either of these....anyone have any feedback?

The reason I want to do this is to get rid of the wire harness that seems to go bad quite often from ice buildup, etc.

I feel your pain. The failed wiring issues of the solenoid can be a real PITA. Not to mention that the solenoid is fairly spensive to replace because of just failed wiring.
I looked into replacing the shock on my 06 GT several years back. Hygear actually talked me out of replacing it saying it is a quality shock and just needs valved and setup correctly to be an outstanding trail shock. Well, I invested in there dual spring setup and valving, and it is much better. Still working on getting the actual settings to my liking since I haven't had a lot of seat time the last couple of seasons.
I've found that if the wires for the solenoid are routed carefully and tie wrapped really well, it seems to help.

I have lots of miles on this machine, bought it used but it’s super clean and runs so good. The original shock I lost a solenoid and had it replaced on a trip by Pat’s in the UP. I replaced the wire harness 2 or 3 seasons ago but now it’s rubbing and it keeps popping the fuse. I have an almost new Ohlins on it now. I contacted Carver Performance and asked about his solenoid removal to mechanical adjustment conversion. He still does it but it’s a good $400. The Elka shock is $450, the Hygear is $800....trying to decide the best option.
