revalve or stiffer spring?

I installed a YZ-450 Dirt Bike spring in my buds 06 GT. It is a Titanium 5.5. That along with the revalve we did , which is based on Ohlins aftermarket shock for the mono, and the machine is awesome all around.

Some spring rate info... Ohlins uses a 5.2 on the aftermarket shock they offer. After converted to in/lbs the difference between them all is not huge....

4.9 = 274
5.2 = 290
5.5 = 307

You are looking at roughly a 10% jump in rate when going from a 4.9 to 5.5. IMO, if you are getting even close to the to 10.4" mark w/ the 4.9 you would be served better by a bit more rate.
 
I would do both for optimal performance.
I'm 250#, only did the FBS & although it hugely improved the ride & eliminated bottoming, it is 'springy' on the rebound.
I'm revalving after the season. This is on my '06 Attak.
 
I also had the larger spring put on, the shock could not handle it. It needed the shock revalve. Far better ride. Worth every dollar. However I found that the preload needs to be dialed right down in lowsnow/hardsnow conditions to prevent overheating (I have not got the rear heat exchanger yet). I like my shock on the 3rd setting to handle the big stuff, the problem is the snowflap will be to high off the ground and let the snow dust escape instead of forcing it back to the front heat exchanger. As soon as I dialed down the preload, I could run 5km down lakes with no snow without overheating.
 
$100 re-valve at Pioneer Performance. Then set your "sag" like "apltx08" said. For about $350 you can have reservoir added that gives more adjustment & better ride. For about $750 Hygear will install dual rate spring & reservoir for the best Apex ride i've felt yet...
