Ok guys, I had to put a track on my 06 apex rtx, replaced the jackshaft bearing and driveshaft bearings while apart, got it back together and tried it out today, sled pulls great forward, no abnormal noise, but I tried reverse and the 1st few times it was fine and then I kind of stab the brake going backward and it made a gear grinding noise, now amost everytime I try to use reverse it just grinds, Ididnt mess with the adjusters when I had it apart so it makes me think I didnt put something back togther correctly, any ideas? Thanks

I have had a similar problem with a reverse grind and not staying in reverse before. Does it seem to go into reverse and not grind if you pull on the reverse lever when giving a little throttle. If so you just need to adjust your reverse linkage.

Side note, how is the snow looking in your area. Have a trip planned the middle of Feb. to start from the soo up through Cochrane, Hearst and back.

i know on my er last year i had the grinding issue and made the mistake of going by the manual to adjust it and really screwed it up unitl i went back to the setting it was and just fine tuned the adjustment and and it never ground again.

Adjusting Step 1 - Upper Linkage
Loosen locknuts and set the length between the locknuts to 27 mm
Tighten locknuts

Adjusting Step 2- Rear Lower Linkage
Loosen locknuts
Turn the threaded adjuster to decrease distance between locknuts
until freeplay is removed, then turn threaded adjuster back 1/4 turn.
Tighten locknuts

Adjusting steps as per Yamaha Tech Tips

Right now the weather is looking great, got 12 to 16 inches on the ground in town and a whole lot more to the west of us.

i tried using the yamie tech and it was way off on my sled lasy year so maybe measure before to see its even close before going by thier steps. just a suggestion.

I just did this to my sled a while back. I found that the top should be 27mm and when i tightened just the slack on the bottom it still slipped out under a lot of pressure. So i took the bottom and spun it about 1 1/2 turns past snug. It hasn't given me a problem since. I pretty much took the play out of the ball joints it has in the linkage. Now the handle is a little hard to pull but at least I don't have to worry about blowing my reverse gear out!
