Had a couple of "skvirrrrk" on the reverse. I always check that the reverse is in position and the summer beeps still it is not stable. Is there a chance of misalignment from factory, has anybody had similair problem. I will try to get them to change it on the warranty.
600 miles now so its time for 1st service anyway.

yes it needs adjustment.mine did it also.simple to do by making the top linkage longer.

Reverse noise

When I put my ER in reverse and back up, it makes noise (grinding)-did it a few times-tried not to use it more than needed until I can check the adjustment.

Should I be concerned of any damage done internally?

as long as you dont leave it in and get grinding it wont hurt the gears.all you need to do is the lengthen the top linkage.loosen the 2 jam nuts on the threaded rod and then spin the rod to make it longer.heres a pic.

Reverse noise

Thanks for the quick reply and pic!
On my sled, it did make the noise as I was backing up(moving).

How much does it need to be lenghtened-is there a specific setting?

you can just try acouple turns and see what it takes.i have about 1 5/8 from outside nut to outside nut.

what is happening is its not fully pulling the reverse gear into the other gear and slipping out.mine even would jump forward after it poped out.

Reverse Gear Adjustment

Came across a "Dear Ralph" letter in Snowtech from someone inquiring about the "grinding" reverse gear.

This should apply to all of the Yamaha 4-strokes w/reverse??

This is Ralph's response: First, check the upper(horizontal) linkage arm, with the reverse arm in the "Forward" position, the upper arm adjustment should be 27mm (inside length of threaded adjuster, between the locknuts).

Second, you need to get rid of any free play in the lower(vertical)linkage arm. Loosen the locknuts and adjust it until any free play(up & down) is removed, then back off the adjuster 1/4 turn and lock the nuts.

It states that these two adjustments must be correct for proper operation.

**This is what was in the Snowtech Jan/Feb issue, page 20**
