reverse problems

so your saying leave it at the wrong messurement and go from there? then adjust the top rodor the bottom rod. still dont understand why its so far off. oh well thanks guys for the help. maybe il get to enjoy it for then one ride sometime.

just saying that going by the book for some reason does not appear to be doing it for you. Sometimes (although I dont have a reason in this case) ya gotta just go with what works. If it was originally working fine, and if you follow that the tooth to tooth situation is going to happen from time to time, then there is some sense to going back to where you were. Just trying to apply some logic after reading all of your posts.

Tork is right. You need go the other way. I took mine out in the yard with the panel off and I kept trying the reverse and kept adjusting it till It stopped grinding. Take a pair of plyers and wrench and go outside.

on my next day off ill try to do some more testing on it. basicly, if i just get the rod(on the bottom linkage) to come up a little more when i shift into reverse i think it would be fine.

Reverse Problem

First make sure your chain is set correctly. This is probably why you began having problems. Chain tension on mechanical reverse is critical.

Had the same problem on my '06 Er last year. As I was out on the trail I didn't have the linkage adjustment procedure with me. I just didn't put it in reverse anymore. When I got back to the trailer for the night I just started adjusting up the loosest linkages a little at a time until it would go into reverse every time I pulled the lever. Havn't had a problem with it since.
