I was wondering if I can goto royal purple 5w30 (manuf. recommended in manual) for my 2007 Apex ER? I previously used yamalube though I expect royal purple to be more superior, I know this is the case when I switch it in my vehicles. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly apprecated. Happy Holidays!

I don't know about royal in sleds but I had bad experience with it in my Lexus 430 the car started smoking like it was a 2 stroke with 70000 miles on it, never did that before and after, just my 2 cents

I have used roypurple in just about everything i own at one time or another.
I use thier synthetic trans fluid in my truck and noticed improved shifting.
Used thier motor oil in my truck quad and sled.
all seem to start easier. even helped decrease the dreaded gm piston slap noise in the truck.
Also used the gearoil in my sled chaincase and truck rear end.
I even ran thier 2 stroke oil in my viper for a while with great results.
I never ever had a problem or reason to use anything else. great products but expensive.
honestly any full synthetic oil that is approved for use in your sled is going to be fine.

I run RP in my sled, and have not had any issues with it. Once, last year, the oil lamp came on at startup and seemed to say I was low on oil. After it warmed for a moment, the light went out and all was fine. The temp was about -20, so I think the same thing would happen to any oil.

oil and spark plugs seem to always be two subjects that have such varied opinions and points of view, on anything with and engine. I have used all types of oil in my cars, from amsoil to RP and some other big name oils too. I think its more important to change the oil and filters per recommended intervals with the suggested type of oil than what name is on the oil.

I may be way off with my opinion, but with that said, I use the yammilube in my sled. I use RP in my GTO, and have no complaints.

I paid for oil changes up front on my truck, for really cheap, they use whatever the dealership uses. I dont stretch intervals past 5k, and I have the lifetime powertrain warranty with that dealership too. I have no worries on the truck or what oil/filters they use.

Use the RP in your sled, and report back what you find!

I am currently using Mobil-1 0W-40 European Formula.

I based my decision on using this from what I learned on bob is the oil guy.com

I read various UOA's (used oil analysis) and liked what I read.

If any of you have any doubts/concerns about an oil you want to use, I suggest you check out this site first.

That is a great website. lots of info, more than I ever thought I would want to know! that is where i did most of my reading on oil.

Thank you all for the replies. I appreciate it. I have made my decision. I will fill you in at the end of the season on any results i may come upon.

Bacon oil is the best smells nice too.

basically that's very true but having said that imho these days recommended intervals tend to be stretched a little. i change the oil / filter every season regardless of mileage and do it before i store an engine for the off season. yes it's overkill but oil's cheaper than an engine. i don't care what kind of oil you put in an engine they ALL get dirty and polluted. personally i think spending big money on what i refer to as "boutique" oils is a waste. for sleds i would (and do) use the mobil1 0-40 euro blend and even that rubs me on cost.

i could go on a good bit about oil but it gets people that buy designer lubricants irritated. no i'm not an engineer but i have more experience with rotating equipment than the vast majority of people and i'll sum it up by saying there's a WHOLE lot of marketing that goes on with lubricating products.
