I am looking to put different exhaust on my 09 xtx. I have heard that there can be an increase in rpm. I am wondering if this true with muffler only swaps or just with full system installs. If there is a an increase in rpm is it enough that I will have to re-clutch my sled. Thank you for your help.

You may not have to re-clutch - but you may have to add a fuel controller - but that is mostly when you add a full exhaust.

If your just doing exhaust you should not have to add fuel controller. i am running excell header and Hauck husher silencer. i ran that setup for a year with no controller and it was fine. this past year i added a clutch kit also.

Once you do like the K and N filter kit or some air box mod then you should add the fuel controller.

So to answer your question you dont HAVE to re clutch your sled. and with just a silencer it should not make that much RPM difference, that will come if you add the header pipe.

Depends on which system you use. With the full Hindle system it showed on the dyno that use of full controller was not needed as A/F seemed to be good, maybe to rich on the bottom but overall pretty good. With the Slipon only it was very lean and should have a controller to richen it up. After talking with alot of guys that just run slipons, they felt their sleds were lean. Adding a fuel controller will just help you take advantage of a full system or slipons full potential. Rule of thumb is that if a system is making power you will see an increase in rpm..wit that increase you will want to adjust your clutching to bring the rpm back down, you don't want to ba hitting the rev limiter all the time.

have to or should????

you dont have to but should add a controller for any mods other than a muffler change...the oem fuel inj system is limited and power could be had with the controller itself in tuning a machine...it will smooth out power (no fluctuations) and make the full power of whatever your mod is

any exhaust mods will produce more HP and in turn raise shift rpm.you will have to add a gram or two to enjoy the results.fuel controller is optional.

IMHO if you are doing a full system the controller is necessary...and so is clutching...
I feel anything less is a half @ssed job...as there is surely more there with the controllers....

weve hit 115+ on full trail shorties show me a shorty without one that will do that and I might feel otherwise..

allen said it was optional. he let me try one and i sent it back. ran worse.

the map is critical to the setup...maybe yours wasnt set up with the right map or Ive even heard of the machines running worse with no adjustments in the map (baseline)

add some filters or an airbox mod and its a must...

like I said...

a shorty nytro 115+ with it...show me a shorty without it that can come close..

its all about what you want to do...run good or run great...small differences add up on these machines...and the sum of the parts is a great running machine..

i got the clutch kit w the excell mid pipe from allen at the same time. after running it for a year i saw it was over reving a little. added 1 gram to the weights and noticed it in side by side drag race w my apex. the nytro was now a bit stronger 0 to 80 than the apex. it was dead even before.if your running stock clutching and adding the mid pipe you should start w 2 grams and see were its shifting.
