Sorry if this has already been answered on this forum. I find it hard to search for topics on this website.

I went riding today and noticed I was hitting 9700 rpms at full throttle on the trail. Is it normally this high? I thought 8500-8900 rpms was normal. Please help!
Thanks

what elevation, what did it pull in the powder?

if it is clutched for deep snow it will almost certainly over rev but that seems a little high.

Thanks for the reply,
Elevation at 3000 and I was riding on a groomed trail. I have a hartman clutch system on the sled and some other mods, but no boost. It does have K&N filters and a MPI exhaust. I don't know if they would change it much.
What do you think.

8300-8500 rpm is what you want to run

Sounds like you need some more weight added to the clutch weights.

I would give hartman a call.

Ok, first off your target rom range is 8600 to 8900, 8800 being perfect.

Secondly, your rpm rev limiter is at 9300 so i doubt you could possibly see 9700 rpm, and thats programmed into every nytro. You have a soft and a hard limiter, the soft kicks in at 9100 and the hard cuts timming and fuel at 9300 so you cannot go past.

Doubt if you what but 9700 is what I saw. No mistakes. It probably was even higher at times. Riding down a trail at 70 + with tree on both sides is hard to keep you eye's off the trail for very long. There is no doubt that it was at 9700 rpms. I checked it several times and saw the rpms around 9700 each time. I never ride my sled with the rpms showing. The only reason I checked was I could hear a noise from the engine that sounded like I was hitting the rev limiter. I'm very aware of the engine noises and know that there is something wrong just by the sound it makes.

HYFLYR. I appreciate your reply and I'm sure you know a lot about these sleds. It was around 9700 what do you think it could be?

Are u shure it wasn't 8700.It's not possible to reach 9700.

Just last week in Cooke I saw 9460rpm in town before going up in elevation..

9700 would be crazy, I don't think you can get that even with the belt off and no load on the motor!

Have had a clutch fly apart at 10,400 on my old 97 SX 700.

I saw 9300 on mine the first year and last year I could only get 8750. I was thinking this was a problem but with this info it looks like I'm right on target. I tried it several times with the same 8700- 8800.
I know it was 9300 the first year but I'm wondering if it could be false readings or track spin.

I'm sure. I'll have to get a picture to prove it. I was surprised at the 9700. Damm sure it wasn't 8700.

Do you have a power commander? You need to check what the rev limiter is set to.

9700 sounds bad as in dangerous.

What mods? Anything else weird happening to your sled?

i know my 2011 MTX will start cutting out about 9300 rpms. Found this out when i put all my mods on before i put my clutch kit on.

Don't have a power commander. WCS A-arm, smaller battery, timbersled rear, 162 CE track, Ice Age rails, K&N filter, Hartman Clutching Primary and Secondary, MPI undertunnel exhaust, MPI tunnel cooler w radiator deletion kit, bill jacobson roll over valve, that's about it. Nothing in my opinion that would cause the rpms to change. I wonder if something happened to my ecu. It sounded so bad that after I was done with the test runs and I was just playing around for the rest of the ride I didn't full throttle it because I was affraid of damaging the engine due to high rpms. I don't remember anything else happening to my sled.
