Hi guys and gals, i have a question for you all, bought an 07 RS Rage 2 months back and been having some issues with bottoming out.
Here's a little info on the sled and what i have done. It is an 07 Rage GT 136 with the RA mono shock. The previous owner studded the track and the issue is that it bottoms out and the studs are digging the rear heat exchanger, I have adjusted the pre-load to number 6 on the first clip mount, that didn't help any, so i removed the shock, pulled it apart to inspect the shock its self, shock was fine so moved the spring perch up to the second clip retainer and have it set to number one preload setting so should be for a 220lb man (im 190 maybe 210 with gear) and now doesnt bottom out as bad, (i fabbed a protector for the exchanger) but it still does, now my question is why would it be bottoming out like that and should i bother adjusting the spring preload more to see how that goes or should i re-valve the shock or upgrade to a fox?
Also i ask this because i am also thinking about extending the track from the 136 to a 144 and do not want to damage the new track or any other tunnel components if the suspension is going to need to be replaced or refurbished
Thanks for your input

On our 06's I have my clip in #2 and usually have the cam on position 3. I have ridden the wife's 06 some this year, clip on #1 and cam on 2. Neither bottom for me. I'm 210 without gear.
The 2 sleds were bought at same time new and are so different it is hard to tell they are the same brand. We also had 2 Polaris with M-10 and they were also completely different.

So do you suggest adjusting the cam to a higher position and go from there? i should of added that i do a mix of riding, trail and off trail sometimes ditch banging to get from certain trails to other trails. since i changed to the #2 clip it has only done it in the ditch on a very close "whoop" section.

A properly setup skid will bottom out once in awhile depending on conditions. If you set it up so it will never bottom out it will ride very stiff.
I myself run the Big Boy spring on the second clip position 1. I weigh about 200 with gear and bottom out on the real bad dips. The kind of dips that will hurt anyone no matter what the setup is.

thanks for the info everyone, just concerned that the studs were digging into the cooler

The studs thing will need to be fixed with adding more protection to the cooler not with a spring setting.
I added an extra inch to my protectors in the heat exchanger area.
You can see previous damage before adding the extra layer.
