Lookin at buying a Rage and was hoping to get some input from some die hard fans. I like the longer track (looks and probably a better ride). Has anyone done any comparisons between ride quality between Rages and Vectors (136 vs 121). Have been looking, found a used '05 with 5000 miles for $4000 USD. I'm assuming a 4 stroke sled with this kind of miles should have a ton of life left. Any problems I should be looking for on a Rage, any major updates to be aware of. Option B is a brand new '07. Found a dealer selling for $6500 USD (hell of deal, compared to $12,000 CDN at home, about $10,000 USD). Any input or recommendations appreciated. I haven't even rode a Yamaha yet, but it's time to retire the 8-10 mpg with my indy. Thanks [/b]

Someone with real experience will chime in, but I'd ask how aggressive a rider you are?
The 05 rear suspension is different than the 06 and newer. Newer is a monoshock with easier adjustments. Seems a little more durable from what I've read. Hoping someone will offer opinions about the older style ASSUMING a typical rider as opposed to the aggressive rider.
I can't accuately compare it to the Vector as my Rage came studded and a little bigger carbide.
One thing I will say is that both my GF and I are pretty new to sledding. She would completely keep up with me on her Rage while I was sliding around on my Vector on the icy trails. We'll see what happens next year after I've done the same mods. I gave her the Rage because I'm assuming a little better ride and it was safer with the studs and carbides. We traded once in a while and we like them both, A LOT.
Both of your deals sound pretty good (with a slight nod to the 07), but I'd consider how many miles you'll use it before you move on and figure what each would be worth at the end of your use. Then determine if $2500 is worth it. Right now the 07 will depreciate a little faster, IMO. If that 07 is the GT, I'd go there, as the front suspension is more adjustable.
Oh yeah, Are you going to spend the dough for an extended warranty? You will, first off, get a new warranty with the 07. Adding the extended one prior to the expiration is about same price as adding one to the sled that's out of warranty. But the 07 extends +4 years (five total) and the 05 would be for only two years.

The 05 Rage does have the pro action CK susp. and is considered "old" tech., but in the 136" package it performs exceptionally well.
The remote adjustment is great on the newer yammies, but most have commented that it will bottom out easilly even when set to stiff.
Our 05 rides great with both me and my wife on the same susp. settings, and we are 80 or so #s different in wt.
wouldn't worry too much about miles with the 4 strokes, but look at general overall appearance to get a picture on how the sled was treated.
Both are good deals.
there may be other improvements between the 15 and 07 other than the rear susp....I believe the seat was changed to a softer feel, also check out the front shocks ,the 07 might have resv. clickers.

.
But isn't that the same suspension in the 06/07 Nytro and 07/08 APEX RTX all be it 136 vs the 121

Can't be that bad IMO that would mean many more options to stiffen or soften the skid up?????

It is NOT the same. The basic Pro-Action has been around at least since the RX-1.
Stretching it to 136 and adding the clicker shock made a huge difference in ride for the better.
The Vector and Nytro had the Pro - ACTIVE skid with the torsion springs.

the pro action goes back to the '97's and the 02 viper was the 1st with the adj. transfer rods.
the ride will vary depending on shock package.
I think the pro action CK was 1st used on the 4 strokes.
the pro ACTIVE (confusing), uses tortion springs on the RR of the skid as phantom said.

I have had both suspensions, and like the Mono shock better. I weigh 255 lbs before I put on my gear, so I added the heavy duty spring. I have also had 2 Yamha 4 strokes with the 121" track, and two Yamaha 4 strokes with the 136" track. I think I like the longer track better, as it gives you a better ride, but does push a little in the tight corners. I currently have a 2007 Rage GT and love it. I rode 84 miles on Tug Hill today, and now have over 4,000 miles for the season. The new sled sounds like a good deal.

my bad I thought the Rage had teh Pro ACTIVE like the 05 Vector
BBW,
nice miles.
what is your opinion of the mono as far as bottoming easilly.
I will be buying a used or leftover 4 stroke w 136" (prefered) this year and am wondering how soft this susp. really is./
I'm about 235# and ride agressive from time to time.
sorry for hijacking this post, but it is somewhat on topic.

snoway, At your weight the the stock spring in the suspension, it would probably bottom out fairly easily, unless you move the tighten up the stock spring by moving the retaining clip under the top of the spring down at least one slot, and also set the shock adjustment cam on setting 6 or 7. If it still bottoms out, buy the heavy duty spring. It works for me. It will still bottom out once in a while over the real rough stuff, but not very often.

I have rode a vector for a few years, I had a change to get some seat time on a rage, and I would say it out rides the vector, my next new sled will have the long track.
