i rode my rage 120 miles on hardpacked tight twisty trails, and no darting, but moderately tippy. i put some c%a's on but i havent touched the limiter straps, control rods, or any ski pressure, or preload. oh by the way, im glad i bought a rage instead of a vector....i'm gladly floating over the deep moguls while all the shorties r jumpin right in!!

The pre load on my front shock springs looks like its adjusted real stiff. I thought that by loosening these up by equal amounts on each side might cure my inside ski lift?
Any thoughts on that?
w/rx models, we remove all preload from the front shocks.

I've read that you guys have been doing that. So you feel this would give the same results even with the different front end geometry of the Vector?
How badly does loosening the pre-load up all the way on the front springs affect bottoming?
Hey Madmax, are you running the 4" or 6" doolys, and are you studded? I would think 6" would be too aggressive with no studs.

I'm sure with enough trial and error, I could get it to where I wanted. I was just hoping someone could save me some time.
I'm new to Yamaha from Cat, but with Cats the way you fix this was to suck up the Limiter Straps. Since the ProActive suspension is similar to Cat's suspensions, I would give this a try. Be careful about going too far though because it will get REAL hard to steer.

It sounded like you cranked up the center shock initially...this gives you a teeter totter effect so that when you corner, the front of the skid pushes the outside ski up into the air. True on any sled with two shocks in the skid.
Tightening the limiter straps may solve the problem, and may be your only option. I'd like to tune the shocks first, then use the limiter straps for what they're for: Ski load. You use them to increase dynamic weight on the skis.
I have yet to go through the new skids, but the general practices apply. Depending on riding style, set it up for you, not Joe Average that Yamaha has to send it over with.
I'll describe my general set up, might help ya.
As much sit in as I can get without bottoming more than once a day on rough trails (this is different for each person, but if I bottom more than once, I know I need more preload)
Thislowers the center of gravity somewhat, and any little thing helps.
Tune the center shock for manueverability. I like a slight teeter totter on my sled with trailing arms, I can use the brakes, throttle, or handle bars to steer. Plus, when I jump on the throttle, the sled sits back and goes, and it helps in powder too. Too much though, and it gets unruly around corners.
Limiter straps: I like mine loose when the sled is sitting static on a flat floor. For your sled, who knows! Start stock, and adjust 1/4" of threads at a time, or 1 hole at a time, depending on what you have. Make sure you change only 1 thing at a time, and by small increments, and take notes!
Your ski shocks should carry the weight without bottoming, but any more and you're punishing yourself. So much and no more.

Biggest problem that I'm having with my Rage is that I'm not getting enough bite with the skis... and I'm running 6 inch Woodys Dooleys up front and 108 1.325's down the center belt.... I'm going to start by softening center shock preload and if that isn't enough, I'm going to start tightening limiter straps a tiny bit at a time....
Definitly isn't lifting the inside ski and I have no problem with tippiness...

Center shock pre-load did it for me. I reduced by two turns. Much better bite from the skis.
I have 6" Dooly's and 144 1.325 Gold Diggers down the center.
