2005 rs vector 159
Hey guys
I recently picked up a 2005 rs vector mountain which had a bender stage 1 turbo kit on it. When I bought it the kit was removed and was told it runs and idles fine but has no power . I managed to get it on the trail to see how it was running and I can get around a quick 90 kph out of it but it don't seem to pull like it should. I was also told by the previous owner that there was a head shin in the motor so I am not sure if that would cause this problem. My plan is to make this sled stock with aftermarket clutching. This is my fist attempt at this sled as this is a project for me over the summer. I still have to check the carbs jetting and adjustments. Also I do plan on removing the head shim so would I need anything besides a new head gasket to tackle this job? Any help will be great guys. Thanks

I would do a compression and leak down test on it. I would think a head shim would kill your mid range punch without boost.

I'll tried to do a compression test and I don't have a 10mm adapter. The smallest I have is 14mm which sucks. I'll have to order one in since napa don't have one with a 10mm adapter in stock.

Did you check the carbs to see if all the jetting was put back to stock? How about the clucthing? If neither of those 2 things where done it will be a dog.You are going to lose a lot of power too running lower compression naturally aspirated and it probably won't pull the stock clutching either

Yeah I would say my best bet is to remove the head and take the shim out. I was told that this turbo didn't need a shim

Timing might have been changed when it was turboed, as well as the head shim, clutching and jetting.

Yeah I plan on doing the updated can tensioner when I remove the head shim. I looked at the stock specs lastnight and the guy that had it didn't change the jets back to stock after removing the turbo. The 148 jets were in a little baggy in a box of parts. I'm unsure what jets are in her with the turbo. Also I think she got a heel clicker clutch kit along with a blue secondary clutch. Think it is a team secondary clutch. Would this secondary be any good to me if I'm running stock with a little bit of clutching done? I'm still in the process of trying to tear everything down to find out the gearing also.

I did a little work tonight I found out the main jetting which is 165 opposed to 148 stock . Also the head shim is roughly 1/8" thick
