Are you sure adding air pressure raises preload? I remember seeing a graft of the Floats at different PSI's and they all had basically the same preload, therefore the curves started at the same point on the chart, but the rest of the curve was different. I don't remember what the X and Y axis were labeled as. I think that was in Snow-Tech
Preload is the load before shock compression. Preload is directly related to the air pressure(psi) which is determined at full shock extension. To calculate preload in this shock is very simple, you take the PSI x cross sectional area of the inner shock shaft.
Ride height (sag) is adjusted by preload.

Yes they may get more advertising, but every report I have ever read in any mag list all the sleds by all the manufacturers. Secondly, realize that they are also test riding proto-types, not production units, so there can be a variety of changes from each test ride for any magazine. I had the chance to ride the 06's and the attack that I rode really lifted the ski's every time you hit the throttle, why because it wasn't the production spring or setting. The Nytro was awesome but at first to me seemed "tippy", ride it for ten minutes and man it's a blast, I adapted to the machine. The GT, well I ordered one because i found the machine the most adaptable to my riding style and wants in a sled......and damn that motor is sweet!
Yamahnator,
I don't know how many miles a year you put on your sled. But if I had the chance to ride half as much as the magazines do I would be in heaven. These so called writer's first, are probably bigger gear heads than most of us on this website. Thankfully they have editors that make there story readable for you and I. So to say they are writer's first, well i will just shake my head and laugh. As for never been fans of Yamaha, once again I will shake my head and laugh.
Guys, all the magazines are written and edited by people that are heavily involved in the snowmobile world, and LOVE snowmobiling. If you think these guys get rich from putting these magazines out sorry you are wrong. They do it for the love of the sport, we can thank them once again for all having different articles and tech information, just like they make different sleds for a variety of people. Just like we appreciate Mr. Sled for hosting this site, he doesn't have to but he does it because he obvioulsy loves the sport (and thankfully Yamaha's!) Same goes with all the input we get from our supertuners and product manufacturer's that we are lucky enough to have on this site. Most of them are diehards just like us who ride whenever they can. As for one magazine favouring one manufacturer over another, it does nothing to benefit any magazine in the industry to be brand biased. They remain neutral to give everybody a fair comparison in the industry from all the manufacturers. Every one has an opinion on every sled out there, who's to say yours, mine or there opinion is right. That's the luxury of having so many different brands, classes, and styles of machines. TO EACH HIS OWN!
Why are you getting your panties all up and in a bunch?????
Ive had a subscription to snowgoer for years...
When the viper came out it was the big bump champ according to them.. ONly to end up the worst riding sled ever... Than 6 months later they said it was tippy and didnt handle as well as other sleds... WHEN in reality the viper was one of the best handling sleds EVER made.. the same thing happend in 03" when the rx came out (sled of the year) and then the heavy handling rough riding sled of the year the next! (acording to them anyways)
MIGHTY WARRIOR..
You are right... they do say alot of praises about the new Attack.. i never said they didnt... but most sleds are compared to sleds of the same class... (Crossoversleds) Crossfire vs. Attack etc etc..
of the short track sleds (more related to full out speed and handling) the Apex RTX and Mach Z have been the biggest talk..
Did you notice that my buddy Randy from Maximum sled magazine (editor) bought a Attack after being a Polaris guy for the last 20 years... He like the warrior alot, but not even close to as much as the ATTACK.. that proves alot..

I never said they didn't ride a lot. I just feel that other magazines journalists are more versed in the sport. They constantly contradict themselves. Welt has given just a few examples of that. They all are wishy washy to some extent but Snowgoer is the worst.
They also rag on yamaha more than any other brand. To say differently means you don't read them that often. I continue to have a subscription with them, in fact I just renewed mine for another 2 years. They are worth reading, I just find that they are a more biased towards certain things. Case in point they bashed yamaha's handlebars (which are basically a page from cat's book). This is minor to me because I like them and take it all with a grain of salt. However they said the same basic thing about the crossfire but said simply "you can change them." It's just little things. They also are big on saying stuff like "this sled lessens the gap between 4 strokes and 2 strokes." Which is bs because I ride tug hill and I can do anything they can (like class of sled). That tends to anger some fans after a while.

I bought a copy of snowgoer last mid winter. What a bunch of garbage. I think abought 90% was advertising. The rest of the stuff read like they really didn't have a grip on things. I love Snowtech, those guys put out one nice magazine.
