I took the RX-1 out for a ride last night and it made today's decision a whole lot easier. For the first half of the ride, I was saying to myself, "Self, this isn't so bad. Maybe I was a little too harsh on the RX." Then came the ride home. The trails worsened, but not terribly. However, after sitting in a reclined position and having to rely on my arms to keep me forward towards the handlebars, I became exhausted. And then I started noticing the slamming and bamming of the ProAction skid more and more. I called it quits early and couldn't wait to get home.
Today I went to the Yammi demo rides in Redfield, NY. I rode an Attak, Apex ER and another Apex RTX (I rode one yesterday too). I didn't think the Attak rode much better than the others...the difference was barely noticeable only on small bumps. The regular Apex rode and handled well, but the RTX was just a bit better...it felt more aggressive in the turns and that's what sealed the deal for me. Well, that, and the looks of the RTX. I don't really care for the graphics of the Attak and Apex ER. I prefer a solid color with few graphics. I love the windshield...I hope it's not too cold because I want to keep it.
I drove right from the demo rides to my dealer. I got them to give me $5500 for my '04 RX-1 w/6900 miles on it. Plus, I didn't have to pay prep or freight. With tax, I owe $5400 for the new sled. It should be ready on Wednesday.
This is my first true rough trail, performance sled. I can't for my first ride!
By the way, all three Apex models rode best with the Mono set to the full hard position.
Is there anything I need to request of my dealer before they start setting it up? I am 6'1", 205 lbs.

Ask them to adjust the "preclicker" on the monoshock to the stiffest setting. The monoshock has 21 settings. It comes set on 4 from softest. To get to settings 8-21 you need to pull the shock. At your weight I would guess you need the stiffest setting - I weigh 200 w/gear and I was bottoming out quite a bit, from there you can adjust between settings 15-21 with the spanner wrench they give you. Enjoy it! I'd also consider handguards and fox roost guards... Here are pictures of my sled with both...

Have them adjust the 3 position clip to your weight. They should have a book setup. If you ride agressive, have them set it a little harder.

Thanks, guys, but you give more details? Is the position clip Yamanator the same as the pre-clicker Spyderman mentioned?

By the way, the 205 lb. weight is with no gear...just me, naked. With gear, I'll assume that weight jumps to 230 or so.

Spyderman, your sled looks awesome! I am sure the handguards keep your hands warm, but how is the wind blowing into your face? Is it tolerable? Do you recommend a certain type of helmet?

We are talking about the same setup on the rear shock - I'm probably just calling it the wrong thing...
THe windshield isn't too bad, it comes up at a great angle - I thought it was warmer than the half windshield on my friends Arctic Cats and especially my buddy's rev. I wore a motorcross helmet and the temp got down to about 15 with 40mph winds, and I was still warm. I also wear a Tekvest so I think that helps with wind hitting me in the chest. I found that I enjoy standing so much on this thing that I was moving around enough to stay warm... I will be using my full face helmet when it gets any colder than that...

guys i dont know what all the fus is about,im 6' 220 and i have the shock in #6 and the dial halfway past max hard indicator,i have not been hell on wheels but its not bottomed out yet,my brother took it and he says same thing, seems much stiifer than his attack, and we have them in same position,im sitting up on the sled by the tank also maybe that makes a difference....kepp your transfer by the standard mark,i turned mine up 2 lines from max and from a dead stop and wacking it it stands straight up....the only complaint i have is my face is sore from smiling so much..

How do you adjust transfer? I want this thing to lift off when I punch it!
I also noticed that the RTX, when maxed out on the RA clicker on the tunnel, felt stiffer than the Attak.
