I put on about 375 miles on the my RTX in Saint George Quebec this past Thursday & Friday. For those not familiar, Saint George is about a 1 hour drive North of Jackman Maine. In short the sled is awesome!

Suspension:

I followed much of "TT670" s advice on the suspension setup. I ran 65 lbs in the floats (measured with sled elevated), put the C - clip on the second groove with the cam setting on # 4, and turned the transfer rod approx 1/8 inch past the standard position towards min. It worked great. It cornered very well, still had good transfer, and it ate up the bumps. I go about 235 lbs naked - and I found that this setup worked great for me. For those that are contemplating putting the monoshock C - clip on the second groove, go ahead and give it a try. The ride was still very plush, and yet I only bottomed once in 375 miles. Also - the Fox floats are awesome. I was flying through chop that would have left me hospitalized on my SRX. Like others have said - it seemed the faster I went, the better it ate up the bumps. It was so comfy it was like riding on a couch. It pretty much opened up a whole new dimension of riding to me. Now I can ride when the trails are beat up and still enjoy myself.

motor:

It rips! The acceleration throughout the power-band is awesome. My 01 SRX was a good runner with one of Turks clutch setups, transfer rods, studs etc.. - but it never ran like this beast. The stock clutching is very, very good. I'm not saying it can't be improved, but it's very close as is. Also - I got 15 MPG the whole time.

misc:

The grip warmers were fair. I don't get cold easily - but I did find that I had them on the max setting most of the time (temp was around 15 F). They also seemed inconsistent to me, as if they were varying in temp a lot as I rode. I managed OK with the stock RTX windshield. I think I'll keep it on most of the time. I did buy a standard Apex shield from "BLUEDOG" that I'll use when it's really cold. Like others, my inside idler wheels came apart sometime during the end of the second day. The dealer is replacing them with 05 wheels. Lastly, I found that the sides of my tank are already showing scuff marks from my knees. I'm not sure yet if I will try to protect the tank with something (clear sticker, knee pads, etc) or If I'm just going to relax, and spend more time riding and less time being anal about every little detail.

Final thoughts:

Over all - What a fine piece of machinery. It starts with the turn of a key, is always jetted perfectly, handles great, eats bumps, hauls a**, looks great, and even goes in reverse. It's truly better than my SRX in every way - and it's way more practical. Yes - there are a few SMALL issues - but over all I'm very pleased.

Bill

I dont care if my windshield is low. I have the new BV2S helmet and I dont feel anything. I think the Apex was wind tunnel tested!

I wish.....at speeds over 75-80ish, I feel the wind from my chest up. This sled is NOT wind tunnel tested. On a real cold day, you'll feel it, won't matter what you have on.

I had the Modular but this BV2S is just the most amazing helmet ever! I even bought one for my wife and my son who wants to use it on his motorcycle.

Well vince glad you like her,i am taking my boys this wend. to madawaska as mine is still in woodys shop waiting parts,so i will have to get used to the small shield, but i had him install the guards w/mirrors i got him for christmas plus new 6" carbides, but he still is not studded and his spring is still on the first clip, but he did soften up his floats to 70# for me,so it should help, and my buddy wants a piece of it,as he has the gt studded and clutched lol,we will see,oh ya vince was that pic you you and sled headed to beauchville, looks familar, have fun.. Pete ;)!

I love my BV2S, theres nothing that offers the visibility and is as air tight, but it doesnt stop the wind from pounding your chest with that shortie windshield. The fatigue factor alone is alot less with the taller shield if youre doing high mile days.

Nice post Bill. You utter my sentiments exactly. I've got two hundred miles on mine and you'll never take that sled away from me. I just turn the key look at my freinds blurp the throttle a couple of times look at them and just grin ear to ear.

Damn, that black and red sure is a BAAAAAAD combo on that sled – looks great, and glad you're enjoying it so far! – Roy
