For summer storage I grease everything, stablize fuel, and run engine every couple weeks for 15-20 min. My question is. Can I remove drive belt and run engine so I'm not turning track? The reason I ask is I keep my sled in an enclosed trailer at a lock-up area away from my home. I have to lift rear of sled each time. Plus I would like to store my belt in a cooler place.

You can, just don't rev engine so quick as to slam the movable into the stationary sheave on the drive clutch. I'm sure the factory would tell you no way. Maybe I should too.

"Do not attempt this at home people, I am a professional on a closed circuit course to destruction".

There, that should alienate me from liability if your clutch explodes sending shrapnel through your body.

Sure, yet I'm trying to figure out why you want to run it. I put sea-foam in mine in the spring and put the battery tender on a couple time through out the summer. Mine never runs in storage. No mater what you do the valves and seats want to rust. It takes a tank of fuel in the winter to get the engine to come back to life and make power.

if you want to keep lifting your sled off the ground make a sled lifter. I used a trailer dollywheel winder, cut the bottom wheel off welded a plate on instead then near the top winder handle weld a half pipe on to hold the rear bumper, then place under the bumper and you can lift your sled with ease.

Can't do that. Sled rear bumper just kisses rear of trailer cover, and can't really go forward any more. Thanks anyway. There are a lot of people on this forum with a lot of great idea's, and advice.

As I said my sled is stored away from my home and I don't have access to an outlet. I like to start my sleds every 2 weeks as that is how I have done it for 30 years. Started doing it that way when I had a 1969 SL351. I have never had a engine problem doing it that way. I know times have changed but I can't seem to get off of what has worked for me. Again there are sooo many people with good and different ideas. Ya gotta love this forum.

I run mine all the time with no drive belt. No biggie. I would be careful of running with no clutch though with no load on the engine it could rev and not stop.

Just shut er off after a two month nap. No belt on, revs below 9 grand, sounds like Watkins Glen in the 70's at an F1 race...still basically an R1 motor and last I knew they do have a neutral in the gearbox. Never hurt the old RX1's or Vector after all these years, and sure sounds good. Gets everything all lubed up again.
