Was at a Yamaha dealership and noticed they had a couple demo 2014 vipers forsale that had 2000km on them and the skid bolts were rusted like crazy!! Has anyone else had this issue, I had never had issues like that with my nytro and don't want my brand new 15 looking like these demos did, since they looked terrible! Never seen skid bolts rusted on a sled like that before.

Sleds were probably used in a high salt area or trailered in an open trailer. I have over 4000km on mine and do not notice any rust.

My venture took a major hit over the summer from salt
trailered it home , had surgery, the it sat , eeedd not good

Speaking to my dealer he pointed out that most of the parts used in a cat skid (bolts, bushings etc) are steel with little or no plating on them. The parts in Yamaha skid are a higher quality and seem to stand the test of time. I have not ripped a Viper skid apart but I have had my former Vector and Nytro apart and was surprised how well they held up. They were in need of love mind you, but they werent what you are describing. MS

The bolts tend to rust when there is standing water in the skis after the snow in them melts. I typically drill a few small holes in the skis so the water drains out.

Good plating was made illegal here in USA. EPA thing. Used to see those dark green bolts on Yamahas and Toyota. Even those are not around anymore. Those held up best. Just have to clean it often now. I agree salt and neglect killed those on that new a sled. Shame.

Thanks guys, glad to hear it's not a common issue!! I definitely always keep my sled all nice and clean so it shouldn't be an issue. I kind of figured that dealer probably never washed them up after the season.

My metal parts get a spray of red rust chek at the end of the season. Keeps everything nice and shiny and rust free. The red rust chek is very thin and is not gunky like the green can rust chek.

My 1985 xr250 (have owned this forever and a day) has these nice green bolts. My 2000 Yamaha Kodiak also has a lot of these green bolts. The EPA Pisses me off on stupid #*$&@ like this
