One of the main reasons I got rid of my Polaris was because it was soooo tempramental about fuel quality. 
How is the RX-1 with regards to fuel quality? I know the octane requirements are low but how does it react with the new blends out there, ethanol etc.? Anyone notice any detonation? If so, under what conditions?

Find something else to worry about, after you read the owner's manual.

No problems and I've been to some spooky gas stations. Avoid using ethanol in anything, its hard on rubber, floatbowls, fuel pumps, and everything else that is fuel related. Even the catylitic converters on your vehicles.

I think it'll run pretty good on crude. The owner's manual says 88, but that leaves LOTS of room to mess with. I don't think that anybody without top end, turbo, or some other exotic modification would hesitate to run it on regular, and I have yet to hear a stock one of these motors burning. I have and will NEVER put in anything besides the cheapest gas I can find. BTW: lower octane = more horsepower (though negligible).
I have never seen 88 octane at the pumps in mi. So wouldn't I have to go up to 89. It sounds like some of you are going with 87 octane with out problems...
I have been unable to detect any detonation even at higher boost levels with 91 in the tank.

88 is the minimum available in Japan. That number has a LOT of margin for error. You can burn the CHEAPEST gas you can find with NO PROBLEM.
