If any of you are considering getting together with others from this site for ride, I highly recommend it. I joined Sketr and his crew last week on a roundtrip 1200 mile ride from Tower MN to the middle of Lake Winnipeg. On the second day when we stopped for lunch, lakercr and kmer joined us. (You gotta ask Sketr about his grand entrance) Lakercr rode that afternoon with us on his stock 700 and kmer joined us that night for dinner. Then hlmrx1 drove down and met us at the bar. Lakercr rode the next couple of days with us and we even got to see his stock RX-1.

It was a very good experience to meet face-to-face with members from this board and I so glad I took the opportunity to make it happen. You all should give it a try. And yes, I live in Switzerland. Just ask kmer.

Thanks for the invite guys...

I wish I could...that would have been great...I have chatted with all of that group except HLM and LakeRacer but that must have been fun!

Maybe you should be thankful you didn't get invited. At one point we had 17 riders, but only 9 finished the marathon. We rode three consective days in 40 below and colder weather. One day the windchill was -55C (-67F) and several guys got severe frost bite on their faces and couldn't continue the trip. We had one sled die (a Polaris) and one Warrior broke their drive shaft on day 2. We had three sleds run out of gas on day 4 (all Polaris), with one rider having to wait 90 minutes in 37 below weather before we brought him spare fuel. Then there was the 3 hour crossing of Lake Winnipeg on an unmarked trail with 3 foot high snow drifts and numerous ice ridges. We were lucky lakercr had a GPS unit on his sled or we would still be on the lake. The conditions were brutal, but the trip was a lot of fun.

Sledder I saw sketr today. His face is really frost bitten mainly second degree. He spent a day in the hospital with frost bite to the inside of the throat and some kind of lung condition or frost bite from the lake crossing.

He told me to tell you guys that all your company was great. Even with the frost bite the trip was the best ever.

Sledder and lakercr were the greatest and fit in well. He said he considers you friends for life.

Thanks for the update Misfit and glad to hear Sketr is doing better. His helmet was all ice on the 3 hour lake crossing and that is what did him in. He couldn't see a damn thing and you really had to dodge the ice blocks or you could do some real damage to your sled. All the guys were class acts and we had a tremendous time.

One neat aspect was that we had riders from age 35 to 73, and let me tell you, the 73 year old broke trail for us on the Rainy River with his 144" Poo 800. So TY'ers, just get out and meet your fellow mates from this site. You will have a great time. :D

Sketr had severe burns on his cheeks and neck. Most of the guys wore duct tape on the faces and neck, but it didn't seem to help. When we got up on day 6, Sketr's burns were starting to leak puss. Another guy had burns around his eyes. Mine was on my chin and neck, but not nearly as bad as Sketr's. Over breakfast, the common theme was "I survived another day".

It was a 1200 mile ride in 7 days, the same as riding from New York City to Miami. Sketr did amazing holding up under those conditions. He was feeling so bad one day, he almost puked in his helmet.

Sledder and Lakercr

Ron was driving his brother Reds truck back from the trip and rolled it 2 times near Spooner. Totaled the truck and trailler with only slight damage to the sleds. Both Ron and Red are fine except for their pride.

Hey guys I enjoyed your company emencelly. I am looking forward to our next ride. Both of you blended in with our group fantastically. I am proud to have meet you.

Kmer and hlmrx1 it was my pleasure to meet you both. We are planning a ride to Manitoba for next year and I hope you can join us.

Sketr - really sorry to hear about the crash - glad the things that can't be replaced are OK.

My thoughts on the trip:

First class group of guys. Weather not withstanding, I enjoyed every minute of the week. As Sledder says, get out there and ride with some of the people on the board if you haven't yet. You're bound to make some new friends and have a good experience. Next time you're out, take a look under the helmet of the guy who was pressing you down the trail for the past 30 minutes - he might not be as young as you think.

I had a friend tell me last night that on the day we did the big crossing on Lake Winnipeg, Manitoba was the coldest place in the WORLD (that includes both Poles). Hope I can put in 200 miles in those conditions when I have a few more years under my belt. They build them pretty tough in Wisconsin.

I was impressed by the reliability of all the sleds, given the conditions. Synthetic oil and block heaters for next time. Sledder - the Polaris is stock, it just has really light skiis, and the boost gauge on the RX is only used for jump-starting other sleds

Sketr - thanks again for inviting me along with your group. The offer for next year is good, and I hope to ride with you all again soon.

Fellas,

Sounds like a trip you won't forget soon. I had a feeling you guys were really in-for-it when the temps dropped on day 3. Lake Winnipeg is pretty big and with no shelter from the wind. Truly an achievement. Glad to hear you are all recovering.

Lakecr - thanks for showing us around the Falcon Lake area. Good luck with hosting the radar runs at Beaver Days. :D

Sketr - wish I could have joined you but not sure my woosy behind would have survived. You guys are a tough bunch. 8)

Suisse - thanks for straightening out that 'Swiss' thing.... lol.... damn, you have to really WANT to snowmobile to travel that far it. You're comments on the trail system were nice to hear.

It sure was good to meet up with you guys. Hope our paths cross again soon. 8)

As for the rest of the TY members.... there's a few of us here that wouldn't mind showing fellow RX1 riders around the NW Ontario region should you decide to venture up this way.
