Go with the modified stock air box. Forget about the K+N filters. Follow what Sled Dog did to teh stock air box, it make a big difference without the nasty noise of the K+N filter setup. I modified the stock air box on my 03 RX1, installed the silver springs and the 170 mian jets. Really woke up the sled.

Thanks for all the good info. When you are talking about silver springs, do you mean the stock silver ones that came with the machine or do you mean the Holtzman silver springs or are they one in the same.

I have filters with pre filters on my 03 RX and have zero issues with trail riding. Now the sound is louder but its a nice louder then stock.

I'm getting a bog when I nail it with my airbox mod. Worked fine for about 300 miles (new plugs). Now it feels like it loads up and sputters. Clears out fine after a few seconds of part throttle but will bog again if I hold it open. I think the 170's are too big I ordered a set of 165's but haven't seen if that will fix it.

Had a riding buud do his own airbox mod (I never saw it) but he said his bogged bad after he did it. he replaced every hole he drilled with gorilla tape and called it a day he said.. *shrugs* obviously there is a way to do it right because lots of people here do it.Fourcam281 said:I'm getting a bog when I nail it with my airbox mod. Well thats not the way to do it. I think most people just dont keep their carbs absolutely clean when its apart or not seated correctly. With my mod at 1800 feet elevation it runs like a top and I never synced my carbs either.

I don't think its a problem with the mod I just think I'm getting to much fuel. The sled runs awesome up until about 3/4's throttle. After that it will pull like crazy for a few seconds and then start bogging. It will still pull but is stumbling the whole time. If I let off and whack it right again it will do the same thing. However, if a run around a bit at part throttle (I think cleaning the plugs) it will start the cycle over again. Run great for a few seconds at full throttle and then bog. I did sync my carbs and did it two at a time then synced the two together. I did find that the two stator side cylinders are running richer so that may be part of the problem.

Fourcam and Jtman I had similar issues after riding with the modded air box. This midrange bog occurred. My issue was one of two things or both combined. Bad seal from airbox to carbs. Or not enough fuel in the 3/4 throttle area. I changed the pilots to 22.5 and the bog is gone. I also went up on clip slot in the needle prior to the pilot change but it only helped a little. I'm thinking that the 17.5 pilots were slightly dirty (varnish build-up) and this is the reason for the delay reaction in the bog issue. Sleddog mod works. I'm running 165 mains, 22.5 pilots and one clip from the top on the needle. 800-1000 feet elevation

I put in 170 mains and I think that's my problem. I got some 165's but don't know if I will get to try them this year. Either way I thinks it's my setup not the mod.
