I was reading the thread started by alterhi about his popping sounds etc...
I know this is to be expected with this motor but as I read it I was wondering about jetting on my sled. The tail pipes are covered in black as if it if running rich as hell.
LB said in that thread:
"You can't adjust it to "SPEC", it has CARBS, which are sensitive to TEMPERATURE and PRESSURE. In addition, the variation from machine to machine - they must be tuned individually. That means that the needle height HAS TO BE SET TO YOUR USE, so do the AIR SCREWS and the various fixed jets.
"

I want to know what can I do to get it dialed in a bit better? Have any of you moved the needle heights and/or changed mains? If so to where and what mains?
What about pilots?
I am not a carb expert but I can usually get by with some advice. I was able to jet my 2 strokes and read plugs pretty good...but this is my first 4 stroke and wondered if any of you can offer any advice and if leaning these things out is a good idea.
Running it stock. Plan on a clutch kit...not sure who's yet. I like the filter kits but the snow dust/water issue concerns me. I know there is EVACS on them but how well do they work? I was reading about some guys having problems.

Rode it the first season stock. Now I want to do a little tweaking.

Thanks in advance for any advice... ;)!

Unlike a 2-stroke, these beasts don't mind running a little rich. Also unlike a 2-stroke, if they're a little lean, they won't explode before reaching the end of your driveway.

Plugs will be pretty white when running well, black on the exhaust can't be helped.

Make sure the carbs are synchronized. If you're running at low altitude and or unusually low temperature, consider going UP size in mains. If you want to play with the needles, be very careful not to break the plastic tabs around the spring retainer.

Thanks LB
So if I am at Sea Level I should probabally leave the mains alone? I know jetting really woke up the 2 strokes but I am guesing I will not get as much gain by jetting these?
Is it just better to maybe move the clips instead?

Jetting alone won't make any improvement you can see or feel. I suggest Freddies ECP kit, that you will see and feel :ORC

been hem hawing on it. I just want to know how much of a PITA it is to remember to check for water and are they freezing up with snow dust???
Even some of the stock air boxes I have seen loaded with snow dust. Would like some real world reviews on it.
As much as I want to wake the sled up...I also don't want to wrench on it in the middle of a trip.
How reliable have they been on these kits...and how often does the Evac have to be drained?
Still reading up on it. I lost my computer for a few days...
