Has anyone else noticed that the RX-1's are way underated by most people on these sites? :?: Not necessarily on totallyamaha but all the other sites out there. It seems like whenever I read a post that mentions the RX-1 people talk about how slow they are. When I was out on the lakes this winter on my 05...or whenever I tell people what I ride the conversation somehow leads to how slow my sled is. A couple of months ago I was talking to a co-worker about sleds and when I told him what I had for a machine he said...
"Wow those are nice trail sleds...great fit and finish...we would be a good race...I got a ZR 600!"
He was dead serious! A ZR 600? come on! My sled still only has just over 500 miles on it because I bought it at the end of last season but I did get to do a lot of racing. All I can say is this sled is way faster then I ever thought it would have been after hearing all the talk. My SRX was fast and ran with any 800 twin...in many cases I would outrun most 800 twins (not off the line but in the long shot I would get them pretty good). I was told my RX would just barely run with my SRX. Well we put them head to head several times and the RX kills the SRX. The top end was very close and sometimes it did look like the SRX had a tad bit more on the high speed roll ons but I was holding him and the motor only had 500 miles on it. If it loosens up like they say then I am sure that if I don't beat the SRX on the high speed roll ons then we will be at least even. As far as the low end goes...my buddy ran me on his 02 SRX and he said he felt like he was standing still when he saw me pulling away on the low end and into the midrange. Then he held me on the top end but he said he was too far back to tell if he was gaining slightly or just holding me, he claims he felt like he was gaining on me but he never caught me and we raced a pretty long run.
Either way I am very pleased with the power of this machine...I am very confindent I can outrun any stock 800 twin so why does everyone think they are so slow? I gotta say its kind of fun when people see you out on the lake all cocky in front of everyone and call you out to race them on their 600 like they are acutally gonna beat you

Some people think that a 4-stroke has to be double the displacement of a 2-stroke to make the same power. This is based on a number of assumptions that aren't necessarily true. Fact is that if it was an AMERICAN 1000cc engine in there, it would be a real DOG, but considering the fact that a 4-stroke has a more positive intake, and that these ones spin significantly faster than most 2-strokes (lets not get all the way into the engineering differences), the difference is made up for.
My advise would be this; downplay its performance, and bet on the race results.

Part of the problem is the brand biased guys and the marketing that their brand does against Yamaha. These guys tend to believe the marketing from Arctic Cat, Poo, and Doo instead of simply trying out the sled and seeing for themselves how they really are.

I get tired of hearing the same dumb thing year after year "RX1 ton" they can't even come up with something new. My dumb a$$ brother-in -law won't race me but will spout off about how his 500ss poo can keep right up with me, as John Stassel say's "GIVE ME A BREAK"

Reminds me of a couple of buddies last year. One has a 1M8, the other has a 1M9 (both 151's).
We were on a lake with good traction, and they were both thinking I was going need 1/2 mile or more to get by them...................end of the story, the guy with the 1M9 has now installed a 1010 kit.

Well Guys, this post proves a point on marketing. Winning snowcross races sells machines, period. Even if the sleds are pretzels. The average snowmobiler wants to ride something that is unbeatable, and the televised race circuit (Snowcross) and the lack of competition by Yamaha has cost it some sales in the past. My perception of Yamaha sleds has always been reliability first, speed second, and there were a very few years when that was not true !! So, it is no secret that Yamaha has focused on groomed trail machines instead of ditch bangers. With the advent of it's 4 strokes Yamaha has entered the aftermarket power war, asperated motors, and they are now King of reliable power. Snowmobilers do realize that and other brands will follow. There niche will not last forever!!!
To make a long story short, we have been listening to How fast are your yamaha's when they can't even compete in the snowcross circuit, so we have had to be happy with, good handling, long legged, fuel efficient, reliable, groomed trail sleds. That in it's self, is not so bad, BUT I SURE WISH YAMAHA WOULD COME UP WITH A KICK #*$&@ SNOWCROSS SLED SO I CAN WATCH MY BRAND SLED COMPETE AND WIN ON THE SNOWCROSS CIRCUIT !!!! Don't you>>>>>>>>>>>>..
Just my thoughts on this post's topic of the snowmobilers perception of YAMAHA in general.

I could care less about Snow Cross. I think it is ridiculous and tha farthest thing from real worl riding you could ever imagine. I used to watch it on TV but now I think it sucks.
