I am new to this sight and I just got an 05 RX-1. I had an SRX 700 before that. I have heard from people that my SRX has a better hole shot than the stock RX. Either way I am looking to modify mine but I don't want to have to mess with it all the time. I want a reliable mod. What should I get?

The nice thing about this 4-stroke is that there's litterally nothing you can do to it to make it unreliable :4STroke:
The first thing you need to do is clutch it. I recommend Heavy Hitters. Second would be a K&N air kit form ECP. Of course you need to get that power to hook so I recommend some Woody's mega bites.

It's a great track but if you add more power you want to be able to harness it.

Where did you get your bender exhaust? Does it sound good and how much louder is it than stock. I heard that the stock is not loud at all and I like to have a sled sound mean.

I got it directly from Bender. Very high quality piece, compares to the stock exaust in appearance but is a featherweight and sounds really nice. It reminds me of my old RF900R with its Yoshimura header and Carbon Fiber can ;)!

STUDS..

#2 HEAVY HITTERS!!

#3 ECP FILTER/jetting/plugs KIT!! 9 More HP.. and 19lbs of torque over stock!

GET SOME C@A SKIS..as without them you will think it handles like CRAP.. compared to your srx.. I owned a viper and its WAY DIFFERENT IN THE CORNERS!! IT JUST DOESNT RAIL!! But you will love the engine..

Welt, I am not knocking your comment, but I am just wondering why he needs new skis as this is a different suspension than yours or for that matter any previous sled, how do you know that with the new mono it won't handle different in the front end as far as turning goes, also they did change the keel this year, just an observation, I just can't see spending a lot of bucks on something that may not be needed.

I agree with you snake. Who knows how the rear skid will effect the whole package. Try it with the stock ski's and evaluate before blindly buying new.

Do not react to any single post as their is a wealth of data in posts if you "search" and base your decision on what you find. But first ride the thing and see for yourself what is lacking if anything.

In the few miles I rode my 05 the other day, I don't see any urgent need to get rid of the skis. Keep in mind, I'm coming off a REV, where I hated the dual runner skis. What were the complaints with the skis on the 03-4s? Pushing?-try longer carbides and/or more ski pressure, or maybe less front arm preload. Lots of possibilities. I wouldn't be changing them on the 05s, without spending some time dialing the sled. The rear skid is all new, so we simply don't know the effect of any changes on the skis or handling in general. The problem with this board (and all of them for that matter), is often times the info comes through as a fact, such as the alleged need to change the skis. You really have to read alot, and sift through the bs, and look for consensus opinions-in my opinion.

I agree ride it first... Thats why i put the skis at the bottom of the list.. I will never ride another sled without pics in it first.. its not worth the chance getting killed because you hit a icy corner at high speed!

Coming off of a viper and talking to MANY MANY owners just like me who are not happy with the handling of the warrior or rx in general... People who came off of a sled that didnt handle that great to begine with think the rx handles great.. More agressive riders like me (aka srx/viper riders) will want to got to better skis like the wider C@A pros that have a shorter kneel.. with 6-8inch carbides..

I had tried sucking up the limiters... It did nothing but make it stear hard at low speeds.. I tried woodies dualies which made it stear easier but had a horrible push as they plug up with snow at high speeds.. I lowered the front preload on the front springs.. It helped some but not much.. Now i have installed a 13mm swaybar and im pretty sure it will help but it still wont handle like my viper did as it was 100lbs lighter! I had also tried different rear suspension adjustments but made little or no difference at high speed! The skis made the biggest difference to date!! It took all of the push on the corners away... While i agree the new skis maybe better than last years model, it is all up to the rider! (you will want to ride the new one first)
If they dont.. Get the C@A skis!!

Like i said before... ride it first.. IF you feel as i do try the skis..

Hopefully the 05s new rear skid solves most of the handling problems but i have heard nothing about it in the mags... Im sure if it did they would have said something!!

Brian.. (take this as only options on what to do if you are NOT happy with your sled... every rider is different and some do not ride as hard as others)

There are some new skis out on the market that look to be even better than the C&A skis. I'll post more when I have more information available.

Welteracer:

Just curious....did you ever try the ski shim mod before you bought new skis?

I remember my first trip to the Muskoka's last year. There is tight curvy trails in this area.

After riding a full day, I was considering trading the sled for a ???.

FYI...For the five years prior, I had been riding different SRX's.

I tried every setting in the front and rear suspension trying to eliminate the darting and heavy steering feel when traveling at high speeds and letting off the throddle.

I posted my concerns on this site last year.....someone suggested the ski shim mod.

I cannot believe the difference this modification made!!

Handled awesome for the rest of the year....the next trip my riding partners could not believe the difference...and way less turning effort on the handlbars!

The reason that I ask you if you tried the ski shim mod is to see if you have a comparison between this and new skis.

I very happy the way I have it set up now....just curious

Thanks

NO.. I never did try the mod... I was told by many guys that the skis i purchased did pretty much the same thing as the mod thought!! I never had a problem with darting.. Just ski lift and push in corners!

I am very happy with the skis..

Like i said ride your new rx-1 first.. if it isnt good enought for you .. get some skis!
