I purchased a 03 rx-1 for my daughter after jumping from polaris in 06 after demo and purchase of an apex. The machine is great except the rear skid rides way to stiff. I have the preload on the softest setting and still takes the stutters like hell. I have two questions, what can be done with the existing skid without spending to much $ or would an apex skid conversion be possible. Does anyone have a m-10 in either an apex or rx and what have been the results.

I am wondering if somebody put a stiffer rear spring in her sled. My 03 doesn't ride that stiff..

If you are going to change suspensions, I would look into a SC10III from Ski-Doo.. I have seen these from 200.00 to 300.00 used and make an Excellent upgrade..

Where are you located?

There is a M-10 on here out of a vector for sale somewhere. What does she weigh. Did you back the center spring off along with the rear spring. Is the fra in the very top posistion or softest. It shouldn't be that stiff unless she is 100 lbs dressed. Maxdlx

Thanx for responses, since I made the post I went to tech pages and printed out needed info to check set up and adjust accordingly. The only adjustment I made was the preload on the rear spring trailside during her first ride. What do i look for to determan if the spring is stock or not.I am located in Northern MA and have a house in West Forks ME just south of Jackman and CAN border.

It is hard to tell stock springs by looks. The biggest thing to do first is to get the fra in the upper softest posistion first. This makes the spring and shock both softer due to a geometry change. Maxdlx

The stock rear shock for 03 RX-1 was a non-rebuildable one. It had click type adjustments to it. The stock rear shock was junk from day one. Many people replaced with something else. At the time you could buy, (and still can) 02 viper shocks for next to nothing in price. Have pioneer revavle and it was the best thing I ever did for mine. The big problem with the stocker was it bucked you off. like the vavling was to fast at coming up. check e-bay to find one, or the classifieds here. It will ride much better, but will never ride as well as the Apex! good luck! and happy new year to ya!! Honk

move the fra to the top position.

The guys are right, the FRA the first place to start. The FRA is the bolt near the center of the skid, but slightly towards the back 1/3 of the opening in the skid. The bolt and bolt hole are splined. The bolt must be moved correctly otherwise the spline can be damaged. Do you have an owner's Manual to explain how to move this? Essentially, ... if I recall correctly, you have to loosen the nut a lot and pull the bolt out of the spline. If you try to turn it in the spline, the spline can be damaged, and then you have real problems. Then set the cam on the shock to the Soft position. It seems to me like you can further adjust the shock's spring's preload. If things are still too stiff reacting, maybe an '04 shock may work to replace the shock. I like mine. But, I do ride it a bit hard and weigh 200+ lbs.
