My bro in law and I have a question. We havent gotten to WOT run em yet, but we are going northi this weekend to put some miles on. Stock sleds, both of em. What predictions do you have for who comes out ahead at the end? His sled has 6k miles. Mine has 200 LOL. Anyways, throw me some opinions.

To be fair, you should give him a head start...

RX-1 on the big end is closer then you think. Some of em are even faster. Pro-action skid is better on top end . The mono sux up some hp.

Don't give him a head start or you will end up even. The LTX will get him out of the hole with more track on the ground.
Good stuff guys, any real world experience with this though. Gotta be some of you guys that have raced this same setup (rx1-Apex LTX)

LTX will get hole shot and top end all day everyday. Done this against my buddies RX-1 multiple times. Let us know how it turns out.

Well I've run quite a few LTX's and Apex's LTX can't take a proper running and setup rx-1 you'll pull him off the line and run even through mid range and then pull again near the top.

200 miles on the Apex it's not even broken in yet for the most performance, but you will still take him.

The engines are essentially the same. A couple hp here or there won't make any difference. Top end numbers for both models vary from unit to unit, average being about the same, possibly slightly better for 03/04 over later models. The one with the higher mileage will win. If the mileage was equal, I would give it a 50/50. Any (competent) clutching at all on his and he'll kill you. Anything worn out or otherwise out of whack on his (belt, clutch bushings, wheel/jackshaft/driveshaft bearings, etc.) and all bets are off.

Its more a fact of rider position and aerodynamics. On the old sled the rider is lower slung behind the shield with less frontal area and the riders weight is shifted back over the track. On the Apex you sit in the wind and are a big parachute.
After having several of both styles and one hybrid with cross over engine. Other than instant throttle response I don't think either one has anything on the other.

Wow, lots of good scenarios guys, this is great!! I think the world of him, he is a great guy, has helped me learn a lot about sled mechanics over the years. However, I have always had sleds that were just not quite enough to keep up with him consistently. We'll see if I have broken the curse. LOL

Boy I beg to differ. I ride with a few Rx-1's, one a 2004 Warrior, one 2003 short track and one 2005 Warrior and one 2005 short track w/ mono skid. The 2003 is the fastest of the RX-1's in this group. He has that clutched and the cam trued. We have one 2007 Attak GT (same as current LTX) and the ATTAK is bone stock and crushes all of us on the lake. My Viper runs with all the RX-1's ,except the 2003 will pull me a couple links on the lake. This year the guy that owns the ATTAK ran his on the river and had smooth running with wind at his back an achieved 141 miles per hour on the dream-o-meter. Last year he smoked everything in site on the lake in the the UP. Maybe he has a stellar runner, but I got to run one of Pat's ATTAKs in Greenland that same year and his ATTAK pulled the one in our group by a few links everytime with myself driving Pat's ....... yes it was clutched. This is my real world experience.

I smell turbo. I love tall tails but 141 bit to large to swallow.
