whenever i start my rx1, the temp light (first light on the left ) flashes consistently. Also, the check engine light occasionally flashes on and off. I just drained and replaced the coolant and i am having the same problem.

im not sure if this would matter, but i recently replaced the speedometer with a used one because my old one was broken. is it possible that there is an issue with the speedo compatability? it was from an 03/04 rx1.

you need to let it warm up, the idiot lights will go out then. Please add your location to your profile.

So this is not an issue/ reason for me to take the sled to a dealer and have them investigate? I had it idling for about 3 minutes and the light never turned off.

Also, is overheating typically an issue with the rx1? i rode about 6 miles in about 4 inches while it was 40 degrees and the engine was very overheated.

The only reason im concerned is because i plan on making a 4 hour trip north to ride and would hate to have something bad happen during that time.

Was the engine over heat light on or do you just think it overheated?

After i had ridden it for 6 miles, or about 25m, i let it idle for a few minutes. It was at this point that the idle RPM increased and the temp light started flashing. Also, the check engine light turned on.
As a reaction, i shut the engine off for a few minutes and turned it back on in order to take it 10feet into the garage. The engine was steaming and the running board exchangers were very warm

If you replaced coolant there could be an air bubble trapped in there somewhere. Someone can chime in but isn't it a good idea to bleed the cooling system by lifting the rear end up as high as possible like on a snow bank or chain hoist?

by the way, when i replaced the coolant, i had to front elevated on a snow bank with the bleed screw loose.. i filled the coolant reservoir while the engine was running, and as soon as the coolant began to come out near the bleed screw, i tightened the screw up and filled the rest of the reservoir up. Im assuming that by doing this, i should have little to no air bubbles

You need to give us better detail. Was this issue here before you drained the coolant or after? The better detail you give us the better we can help you.

heres the order of events:
1.bought used rx1
2. noticed temp light blinking on idle
3. rode for 25 minutes in marginal conditions and 40degrees F; during the course of the ride, the light turned off
4. let sled idle for 3-5 minutes before putting it away for the day
5. temp light and engine light came on and engine was steamy
6. drained and replaced coolant; but the temp light is still flashing.

I've read front high or rear high but you could do both ways to make sure- sounds like the higher the better. Also make sure you have a 50/50 mix of Anti-freeze and distilled water. Anti-freeze alone will not cool as well. My temp light blinks every time I start the sled cold for a few minutes until the thermostat opens.

RXs can overheat in marginal snow and warm temperatures.... Temp light will blink on idle during initial startup until it warms up some. Then it should go out. I can't move my sled until the light goes out. Then the sled will let me go. The engine light will come on with a temp symbol in the display when it is overheating. Try packing the running boards with snow and see if it goes out. I've had to do that on the trail on a couple occassions....

I've always read to have the front of the sled up cap off when burping it..... I've never had to do it, yet.....

thanks for the input... Ill just blame the issue on me overreacting! the past 4 sleds i have owned have all been fans, so im fairly new to the whole 'overheating' issue...
should i wait untill BOTH the temp light AND the warm up engine light go out before i ride?

Should only be one light blinking on start up, and yes, the RX-1s don't like warm temps and bad conditions. I put a temp gauge and ice scratchers on to stay ahead of the issues.

NEVER let an RX1 sit and idle....they get hot QUICK. No fan...........Apex had fan and you can adapt one...but I recommend ice scratchers and not letting it idle while warmed.
