I have been getting a flash code on my 03 rx1. After a long fast run I will get a flash code... long... long... short. The sled runs fine but when I come to a stop it stays at a high idle at around 3000 rpm. If I wait for a couple minutes the flash code stops and the engine drops to the proper idle. If I am cruising the trails at lower speed I don't get the code. It only seems to do it in very cold weather. I did a 225 mile trip today and the temperature was -30 when we took off. The first part of the trip was a 10 mile run down the lake and the code came on about 1/2 way down the lake. I waited for a moment at the trail head and the code cleared and the idle dropped to normal. This happened several times during the day until the temperature warmed up to -20 and the code never came back. It did the same thing on a 140 mile ride last week. It's almost like something is freezing on the long fast runs and then once I stop or hit the slower twisty trails, the heat of the enging thaws it out. Does anyone have any idea what could be happening. Thinking back, the code started after a day playing in the powder when I filled alot of the engine compartment with snow but I have had it in my heated shop several times since them.

That's the TPS code ( throttle position sensor).

Yeah thats what I figured according to my service manual. So I did the tests that you posted and everything checked out good. So thats why I'm confused and thinking it's a some kind of freezing issue

-13 today, a far cry from -30 yesterday. I did the same 10 mile lake run today that produced the flash code yesterday. I did it several times at the same speed as yesterday and a few at higher speeds trying to get the flash code and it never appeared. Yesterday after the lake run I lifted up the hood and the rubber flap that covers the carb was hard as a rock because of the cold. Today it was soft. So the engine was abviously holding in more heat today. This is what makes me think that something is freezing. It has been -25 to -40 for the past few weeks and it is suposed to stay warm for a few weeks now, so it will be interesting to see if the code appears in the warmer weather. It's got me completly confused and it's got me thinking that it has to be something with the TPS or thottle that is freezing. Maybe I should spray some lock deicer or blow some compressed air on the linkage and pivot points of the carbs and thottle to tyr to dry things out.
