Hi all, have an RX1 ER stretched to 151. Before it goes out for its maiden voyage this winter I want to set the gearing and clutching up accordingly. Riding will probably be between 1-3,000 ft in elevation, trail riding with some powder, and I weight 135lbs. Also running anti-ratchets if that makes a difference.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Gonna need to know what rpm,s are after all your changes on snow with exactly how the clutching is set up then we can make recommendations.
Can,t give you a set up unless all these criteria are given out to us.

run 22 -38 gearing, orange-silver-orange primary spring with stock weights. rpm should be 10600-10800 tops.

You wanna be 10200 on the rx-1 for rpm,s.

thats what everyone said, but when you wind them up higher they go faster, simple as that.

Turk, that's the problem. The gearcase is apart right now, and I don't want to put it together just to run it one weekend then have to wait on parts and take it all apart again during the season. Hartman says 21-42 is a popular gearing, and I know I'm limited on bottom gearing due to reverse am I not? I know Tom is more of a mountain guy and compared to the sleds he works with I'm a flat lander.

I have never ever seen any of the mountain guys be able to get a flatlander close on set up. Your gonna have to probably suck it up & tune 1st or just live with what you got till you get time to dial it in.MA03RX1ER said:Turk, that's the problem. I'll chime in here. I've flatlanded a number of long tracks over the years and the best gearing I've found is 22/38 or 23/40. They are same ratio, but the latter requires a 70 link chain while the former requires a 68 link chain. For an rx1 I would put orange/silver/orange spring in front clutch and white at 70 degrees in rear clutch. Leave weights and helix alone. Hope this helps.

That's a lot of track. 21/42 is definitely too low though. It'll theoretically get you as high as 94.47 mph, and you definitely have more power than that available.
Also, note that the bigger the gears, the more efficient the chain. So given the choice between 22/38 and 23/40, go with the 23/40.
The other thing to think about is the maximum size of the bottom gear. You have reverse. If you want to KEEP reverse (which I definitely suggest), you can go maximum of 42 on the bottom, BUT, this will require turning down the teeth on the reverse gear for the clearance. 41 should fit.
