May purchase a used 03 RX1. I would like to know what I would like or dislike about this sled from previous or current owners, Not looking for magazine answers, I "ve read plenty of those, but real world experience. I do mostly groomed/ungroomed trail riding, but we do go off trail and hill climb, UP riding and powder riding. We ride Vipers now so I already know that I can't throw it around like the SX. Any feedback is appreciated. Before I get the obvious, my budget prevents the the Apex for now.

Stock skis are WAY too small. They'll sink bad in anything. Also, not nearly enough track to harness all the power.
Changing the oil I find is a pain it should be much easier to do than it is. But love the sound, clean smell and durability.

Rear suspension and track suck. Put filters and a clutch kit in and it goes like hell....................Brian

Add 4 inches of foam, and a 3inch riser with 05 mountain throttle cable. I did it at the end of this season and wish I had done it at the beginning. Helps the harsh suspension and raises the seating position. It's not an xpert x but 100 times better then before.

Only upgrade the seat if you're girly and need something really soft and comfy under your as*. If there's any testosterone in your blood, 03 seat is best.

ditch the cone track that the 03's came with and put a ripsaw on it.
set the suspension for the rider and clutch it. i loved the one i rode whitch is why i bought the 05 warrior after lookin for 03-04 rx1 nc that i couldnt find any of. the one i rode had 10,000km on it and was in need of some tlc cause there was lots there but she was leaving some on the table.

I rode the season except the last week with the 03 seat stock. Lack of grommers ate up all the testosterone.

I actually prefer my 03 seat to my 05 that hump on the 05 sticks my butt right on the gas tank move back and you eventually slide forward. I absolutely love my 03 had the 05 for one year and took the 03 back from the wife. It did take a few minor updates to get it to handle good but $200 for links swaybar and springs as well as a set of decent ski's and she handles very nicely.
1. Add a wide front end kit that includes the straight rate springs,, torsion bar and long links.
2. articulating handle bar riser and stuffed seat.
3. better track (ripsaw).
4. M10
5. Simmons or precision skis.
Now you have a sled that handles as good or better than the Apex and uses a little oil.
I'd do it was in reasonable condition and the price was attractive.

I have done some stuff, such as change the swaybar, put on the longer links (75mm), lighter arms and the 2005 mountain skis. I will be ordering a lighter skid and a lighter hood this spring.
I have found that except for some situations that this machine is quite good, but I use it to haul sleds with loads. The towing acts like an extra person, so the suspension seems better like that, it is a little harsh when alone as I have set it up for towing.

just get it and ride it . You can get a bunch of junk for it but works well like it is . 10,900 miles and no complaints .
