I have a RX1 using oil? Rings? Going to do a compression test tomorrow to see the results!! I need a service manual for the RX1 any idea where to find?

What year? 03 and 04 had ring issues allowing oil to pass through. Rings were changed in 05.

Is it an 03 ? Mine uses 1 pint every 100 miles. It doesn't matter what kind of oil you use. I've tried everything. Guys on here will tell you to do the Yamaha Ring Free oil additive treatment. It didn't help my sled. The stuff is expensive like $12 -$14 per bottle. I also tried the Sea Foam fuel additive treatment. It didn't work either.
Just check your oil level everytime before you ride. Un-plug the wires from the dipstick, unscrew it , pull it out and wipe it off. Then set the dipstick down into the tank just until it touches - do not screw it in. If the engine is cold add oil until it reaches the E at the bottom of the crosshatched area on the stick. The E means "enough".
I'm told they updated the piston rings on the 04 or 05 models.

It sure seems Yamaha could have built these engines better. They were building 4 stroke motorcycle motors long before 2003.

Same issue here.. using a quart every 300 or so miles I've gotten in the habbit now of checking before every ride and leaving a quart in my truck just in case (after driving ALL the way up to the mountains to ride and the oil light came on 5 minutes from the snowpark and I had NO extra oil) Yeah that will piss you off.. pissed away $60 in gas to drive up there just to kick the snow around and gripe at my sled...

Anyway, it really erks me my sled had 1500 miles on it when I bought it and yes it's an 03. If I bought a R1 that used this much oil I would sell it immediatly and that is the plan with my RX1. I'll ride it through the rest of this season (since it's pretty much over here now) and I'm getting a nytro next year.

Just curious, if I wanted to re-ring it I would need to have the cylendars honed? yes?

BTW I tried the seafoam thing and that did no good, not even gonna bother with the ring free I'm just one of the many who got a sled with the crap rings.

compression test

it only checks comp rings your oil rings do not affect compression your oil rings could be linned up but comp good
