I bought the 3 compartment bags by Yamaha, the ones that are specified for the Apex. Obviously the side anchor points get riveted to the tunnel. I am trying to figure out the most effective way to attatch the rear anchor. I can strap it around the plastic under the taillight, but this does not seem very sturdy, and I am concerned about damaging the light and/or the trim. As another possibility the strap, if let all the way out, can go around the bumper, but it pulls the bags back far enough to make the rear storage difficult to open. They have supplied me with a small piece of webbing with a loop and a hole for a rivet, but I am not sure what to rivet it to. I could rivet it to the bumper, but I am pretty sure that will end up being a big ball of ice banging around when the bag isnt attached. I dont see anything else in the area that looks structural to anchor to. Anyone else handled this before?

I have the same set up on my attak. I have the extra extension on mine so the dealer riveted the strap to that. They say that they rivet it under the tail light by the bumper for the Apex's.There must be metal there that you can rivet it to. The straps then make a V which still allows the taillight to be perfectly visible. I have no pictures but hopefully someone can send you one to visually show you.

Saddle bag installation

You've probably already installed your saddle bag but here is what I did with my RX-1. I used a fairly strong bolt with washers on both sides to hold the tab in place.

I riveted the loop that came with it to the bottom of the bumper ,did this last year and have had no problems with this set up and no ice build up.
