How can they even test if there is a loss in power on the dyno. How do you emulate cold -10 degree air being forced into the airbox at high speeds??????

Good point...but how do you claim 5-7hp...or any hp gain for that matter without putting it on a dyno. You don't need -10 air being forced into the airbox to check a gain...my sled was dynoed at Hurricane perf...we got 6hp on the dyno with an airbox mod...no air being force in and it was alot warmer than -10. Ulmer has dynoed with a fan blowing at the front of a sled to simulate that.
To get an "accurate"reading on a dyno for a "cold air" intake, a fan just doesn't seem like a good test piece. iMHO. How can a fan be equivalent?

well, if you are driving at say 50mph you have air being forced into the intake at that speed...if you have a fan blowing air at say 50mph...you have air being forced into the intake at 50mp...Dynos are just a tool to measure a gain...if it shows a big gain on a dyno then great...if it shows a little gain then great...no gain..well, not so great.... that big or little gain could be even greater in the field....even if you only pic up 3hp with this Schmidt bros mod...it's only $50....well worth a shot IMO.

At 50 mph the dynamic air pressure is only .05psi/.1"hg. At 100 .2psi/.4"hg. Ram air cannot work at snowmobile speeds.

Well ulmar is saying the vetor air box mod for a 2010 is gitting 3 to 5 I no they are differant eng. but almost the same so y wouldn't a air box mod on the nytro work has he really dynoed it or did he just do the k&n's and thats it

.

I agree 100%. Chris at Schmidt bros also says there is an rpm gain with the mod. Mine is on the way along with his stage 2 clutch kit!! I know someone who has the clutch kit and loves it!!!! :drink:

I can see how modding the lid would have been dismissed by HP tuners and drag racers on the dyno. The gains are small and does not work at the top RPM. It only appears to be 3-4 HP gain over the lower RPM.
Cheers
