If you ask Ulmer, he will say he tried mods to the air box lid like this and it had no effect on the dyno.
I think there is a post somewhere about it.

The first modification Allen tried was with the stock airbox. Additional inlet area was created ostensibly to allow more airflow. But modifying the stock airbox inlet with additional opening area apparently caused peak RPM airflow to drop, and we lost HP. Adding fuel flow with the PCIII only made things worse, so the modified airbox concept was abandoned. Looks like the Yamaha acoustical engineers have created a stock airbox
that utilizes sound wave tuning to optimize airflow at the HP peak, within the allowable dB limits.

Just don't believe this small air box mod is good for 5-7 hp! Most aftermarket suppliers sell a kit very similar to this and I've never seen claims of huge hp gains like this.We can only wish HP was this easy and cheap to buy. JMO.
