Schmidt Sway Bar

I searched thru a lot of threads about sway bars and there seems to be two schools of thought: 1. A stiffer sway bar works well. 2. Throw the sway bar away. I've been thinking about a Schmidt Brothers sway bar. It's a lot of coin. I'd like to hear from someone who has actually tried one.
 
i have been really debating on taking mine off for the hurley/up trip this next week i would just like to know if it really is gonna help or hurt me to take it off....scince they make an after market ones like the schmit bros one how do they differ from stock?
 
If you are on a hard surface then the sway bar is an asset. If you are on a soft surface (a foot or more of powder) then the sway bar is a detriment, but only if you know how to countersteer. I had a disconnect for mine so I would lock it down on the trail and remove one link in the pow. The phazer is super tippy so I wouldn't recommend removing it. Its best to have an option and the ability to go back and forth.
 
I have been running a schmidt bros sway bar for over 3 years. It is a huge improvement in stability and handling from stock. It helps control chassis roll. A trail riders dream with flatter cornering,and it is actually a softer rate not stiffer I believe. It makes sidehilling easier. One of the best mods I've done. It is pricey but worth it in my mind.
 
How about in comparison price and performance of the Nytro sway bar to the Schmidt bros unit ?
 
Yes its the heaviest offered on a Phazer.Same as Nytro.I could only tell difference at slow speed.Did not help highspeed cornering at all.It cant because for swaybar to work the outside ski has to be forced up.At point of inside ski lift the outside ski has been forced up as far as it will go already.The problem occurs right at point you are comfortable with giving the sled gas while in the corner.This act of giving it the gas causes front end to be un wieghted before backend slides.Once un wieghted outside ski is no longer forced up and swaybar is useless.

Cannon was that result of the 15mm sway bar only or sway bars on phazers in general ?
 
I havent tried a Schmidt Bros but it is a swaybar and like I said once outside stops being compressed swaybar is no longer doing anything.So yes swaybar in general.Now dont get me wrong.They do help up to that point huge but its not enough compared to many other sleds I have ridden.Transfer and high cg rule the day on a phazer for highspeed cornering.But the transfer also makes the sled fun in many circumstances.If it sounds confusing it is!Its all about compromises.

I don't think it is completely accurate to say the sway bar is doing nothing once the outside spring stops compressing. At that point the sway bar is still holding the inside spring in compression. It's helping the outside spring resist further compression. If you could disconnect the swaybar at this point the outside spring would compress further (unless it's bottomed) and the sled would roll more.
 
This is true but at this point you already have inside ski lift.I get what you are saying though.Many of us go with the lift and make the turn on one ski.

I wish it worked that well for me.
I still get a lot of ski lift when moving slowly in twisty trails - so no flat cornering there. The swaybar did allow me to put more tension on my front skid shock spring to reduce bottoming out and also loosen the limiter strap some. To me it seems to work better at higher speeds but I always find it difficult to assess these types of changes and there are so many variables at play. Maybe some day I'll test it on the same trail and compare it with the stock bar. For the price it certainly didn't give me that "wow what a difference" feeling as when I switched skis or put on the new track. It's kinda like I want it to be better because I spent all this money, but it is not convincing.
 
Sorry to hear that. Maybe it has to do with the venture vs phazer. I have a very tangible difference from stock to schmidt bros. I would not support them if it didn't work.
