Hey everyone. Does anyone know if the seat fix that Yamaha has suggested working? I am not sure if the rivet is the problem. My dealer stated that he is also skeptical about it and that there might be other issues that might be there. Any suggestions?

Seat fix
I had my dealer run my vin and the only warrantee issues that came up were the float bowl fix and the rubber bumper hood fix, nothing about a seat fix. My serial number did not qualify for the bowl fix because mine is not a Mtn. sled. I can find nothing worng with my seat and I have 1800 miles. I saw something in Snow Tech Magazine about moving a rivet though.

My dealer was able to get the seat cover for me. It almost looked like the ice coming through the rivet was causing the problem. I have completed the new rivet location but have not replaced the cover as of yet. I made repairs to the old cover and will run the old cover for a while until I am happy that it is the rivet that caused the tear. I have also placed the rubber gromets to protect the hood. I can now put the bolts back in to help hold the gas tank cover. I just took them out last year when we all found out about the damage to the hood and drove it almost the entire season like that without any problems.
I had my seat cover replaced, and the new one is the 04...It's sewn differently because apparently some of them were tearing...Rivits...The small hole I had you cannot see unless you take off the seat and yes it was caused by the rivets that they want you to move...I did not move mine I covered them with silver tape bought at Canadian Tire..I did not change the seat cover yet I will wait till next year because the small tear I had cannot be seen...I'll see by then if the silver tape worked if not I will move the rivets next year.

I also had the rivets moved and a new seat cover. But just a cover. Yamaha expects the dealers to put the new seat cover on right, I guess it is really hard. They sent the seat to the apolstery shop to put it on, they could not put it on as good as yamaha does.

There is a tech bulletin on the tunnel rivit causing the seat cover tear. Check the tech pages from the main totallyamaha.com page for the bulletin info. I have seen ice come out of the seat covers but I believe the covers are torn previously and then the moisture gets into the seat through the torn area. The tear is in an area that most people don't notice it unless the seat is removed and then see it from the bottom. I think the seat rubs on the rivit head while riding causes the original tear. Relocating the rivet per the bulletin should clear up the rubbing. The 04's have the new rivet location.

I called my dealer and he stated that the fix should work.  He also told me that the cover will be replaced by a local upholster. I only hope the new one looks the same or better than the old one.

When the seat is removed there is one rivet higher than the others on the side of the tunnel. It is to be removed and a new one relocated 14mm forward and 10mm down.
