took the beast out for the first time. It was obvious something wasn't right were it took 7K to engage and it had no power.

I installed an ulmer clutch kit and also adjusted the secondary sping position. ( first attempt to play with yamaha clutches)

Question: when re-assembling the secondary is there a pre load needed? The secondary didn't have any preload when I took it apart so I didn't try and twist or preload it when I put it back together....

thanks

7K is way to high.

Yes there is pre load with Yamaha secondary.

I would look if the belt is worn. See if it sitting to low in the secondary, you might to remove shims. It is also possable that you have a bad spring.

yes there is pre-load on the secondary. sounds like your problem.

how much pre-load? when in doubt ask Cannondale!! in other words I don’t know haha.

a1 or 2.Remember when you put secondary back together to add just enough twist so the ramps are tensioned.Easy to miss that.Hopefully your pads didnt get banged up.Pretty sure there is a post in the stickies at top of forum showing all this.

do these clutch kits void your warrenty?

Hard to say. I think it might depend on what the warranty claim is for.

That said Ulmer's kit could be swap out and put back to stock in about 10 minutes if you don't have to reset the secondary, 20 minutes if you do.

His is easier because it's new weights and a new spring.

I think some of the other kits are rivets which makes it a little more work.

it was a preload. it runs like a raped ape now. the clutch kit and service from Ulmer are hands down the only way to go

good to hear you figured it out. also good to know about Ulmer being the way to go since i emailed him about ordering one for myself.

Would be dumb of Yamaha to void a warrantee for clutch work especially if it keeps the revs down.I wouldnt worry about it at all.
