I was out tearing up the lawn today after I put a new secondary spring and new ramps in. I just put a new belt on too. After a few passes the secondary would not close and it was like starting in third gear. Is this just a freak thing or is this something I need to worry about. When I got back to the garage the belt was sitting one eighth of a inch above the sheaves. I did not take a scotch bite pad to it yet. Will that cause the secondary to stick? I am running the helix at 70 degrees (6-1). I am looking for ideas to prevent this from happening again. I am looking to grass drag it this weekend. By the way it is a 03 rx1er. It seems to be running great except for the secondary.

Were you rolling to a stop? Because if you are hard on your brakes at the end of a run, you could be locking up the track stopping the belt from "coasting" back up in the sheaves. Does the scondary close back up while on a track stand?

I was doing hole shots but I do not know if I locked up the track that time. It is possible though. I did not try it on the stand after it did that, I ran out of time. I will be trying that tommorrow. The hitting the brake to fast does make sense. Thanks everyone I will let you know how the run on the stand turns out.
After running it on the stand today, the clutch seems ok. So, I am going to say it is because I hit the brakes before the clutch had a chance to close all the way. Thanks for the help because a buddy of mine want to race this weekend and I do not want to lose because of it. Hopefully the snow flies here soon because the itch is getting bad!
