Secondary setting on my 05 RX1

Hey guys,

brought my sled in for a tune up and oil change last week. The dealer informed me my rpms were down. I had my setting at 3 - 2 which I know is soft. They changed it back to stock which I believe is 3 - 3 and now I'm getting just over 9 grand...Should I replace the spring or go a little stiffer in my setup??? Any advice would be helpful...And if you have any suggestions as to what combination would work best for more torque on a stock RX1 I'd appreciate it...Thanks.

You have something else going on in the clutches or elsewhere . You should be at least 10k rpm with stock clutching.

Thanks Turk, but the sled is 5 yrs old and only has 2000 miles on it...Im guessing the spring is weakened over the past 5 years...I had the plastic bushings in the secondary replaced last year so Im thinking of going 3- 4 to see if that helps any. I was under the impression that a stiffer secondary would bring the rpms up.

If you believe the spring is weak you should replace it. The springs are inexpensive and once you get both changed to new, and set to stock, you will be able to diagnose any other problems the sled might have.

Your rpm,s will not be down 1000 with just a secondary setting change. Your sled should be pulling 10k rpm,s at the factory setting.
You have an issue somewhere.
Changing the secondary setting won,t fix another problem you have elsewhere on your sled.

i had rx1 that did the same thing, i had to replace cdi- and coils then
i could spin 10300, not a cheap fix.

clean the coils with brake clean or similar solvent to remove carbon trace, and wash out foam in airbox (beltdust). these simple things can lower rpm.

You may want to clean carbs also, sled may be going lean because of plugged jets...hope this helps, Allen.

Most likely your carbs are dirty. Dont know exactly what that dealer does for a tune up and oil change??
Turk is right, you should see 10000 rpms on stock clutching. Give the carbs a real good cleaning and I bet you 'll be back in the 10 grand range.

Also good to check your spark plugs, and clean the coils while you are in there,

turks been helping me with mine you will not get it to work good with stock weights believe me ive spent alot of time on mine .what is working alot better in mine is a pin kit to use polaris weights with stock spring i only have to run 52.5 grams of weight compared to 74 grams with stock weights.The curviture is more aggressive and shifts it harder with less weight but you cant go to aggresive.tonight iam going to test a set of dpy dalton weights 60 grams so i will go abit stiffer spring in primary turk says to bring it out at 9800 rpm and let it pull to 10300 rpm.What a differance with lighter weights quicker spool up and much less rotating mass.makes sled feel much lighter
