Ok, can someone explain what and how you determine what secondary spring to use when clutching a sled. I understand how it works in the Primary, but not the secondary. ie Yamaha uses the pink spring, the silver and white spring. Why and how do you determine what to use?

Thanks...

I dont know if it is some dark secreat or not,i just look at the rate of the springs using the yammi chart and book i have and try differant set up on the trails and lakes, but the yammi white vrs pink is same dia. wire same amount of coils but the tangs are at differant locations from each other, looks like they are from memory about 180 degrees apart,so that maybe how they define the differant twist rate.

Secondary spring controls the speed that the helix upshifts & backshifts.
You need to balance the helix & secondary spring to get the proper rate of shift. Too quick upshift & belt slips in the secondary & you will see rpm,s nose dive & rpm,s will be slow to recover.
too much tension & the sled won,t upshift fast enuff keeping the ratio in low gear.
Get aaens clutching handbook; it explains this very well.

Ok, Mike, I think I will get it, because my curiosity is really wanting me to look into this really deep....

Another question when you have a brand new sled, where and how do you start to try and make it better then stock? Do you start with primary and see what you can throw at it?

If rpm,s are in the sweet spot for your particular model of sled & clutches are cool your as good as it gets for 99% of your riding.

One more for you... How does the dual angle helix work? ie.46/42

Go to technical pages & read everything about clutching. it,s all there.
