Seeking helmets with drop-down sun visors...

Indiana, the vast snowmobile-owner's wasteland...
So far it seems only Ski-Doo offers this feature, and pretty much across the board. I absolutely hate wearing sunglasses under my full face helmet, and it is challenging to carry an entire extra shield on a sled, plus you gotta pull over to swap 'em anyway. I LOVE the idea of rounding a corner, finding sun in your eyes, and pushing a button on the fly to instantly drop down the tinted visor.

So...does anyone know of any helmets that offer this EXCEPT for:

1. Ski-Doo BV2S...I'm not crazy about the high price and the seemingly high maintenance darth vader breath thing.
2. Ski-Doo Modular....again I don't like the darth vader breath thing
3. Scorpion EVO-400 and EVO 700...I WISH I could buy one of these as they look like great helmets for the price, but believe it or not, I tried on their XXL today and it was too tight for my melon. That's as big as they come. They seem to run small.

So....does anyone know of any other helmets of any brand/make/model that offers the integrated drop-down tinted sheild?

I keep praying for others like HJC or AFX to copy this feature as they've always fit me well, but they seem to be slow in coming up with it...

Thanks!

ski-don't just came out with a 3rd 'visor' helmet for this season....It's called, um, where the hell's that mag....Oh, um, it's called the "EXO 700
SE"... I believe it runs full retail at around $250 CDN, so an American can probably pick one up for about $1.76 :o| :o| :o|

Brother in-law says e-bay's selling them way below retail...dunno if it's true though.... :dunno: we're both liars and drinkers lifetime mebers :drink: :drink:

I spoke to a guy from HJC about this last year and he had told me that they are releasing a new Modular with the sun visor feature this year. I remember him saying that it would be sometime in the late Fall. Hope this happens...

The new Doo helmet is called the EXO, looks nice and finally a Doo helmet with a snell rating ;)!

Thank you all for the responses....

Yes, Scorpion makes the EVO 400 and 700 helmets for Ski-Doo. They are identical in every way except for graphics, and the Ski-Doo's are slightly pricier because of their name. For those of you with normal skulls, check them out. That's the one that didn't quite fit my fat head however...if it did I definitely would have bought it as I loved the helmet.

I'll check out Polaris to see if I can confirm they offer one, if yes I'll find a dealer and check it out. And I might even send an Email to HJC to see if I can confirm this rumor of their offering one soon. If they do, it will be worth waiting for IMO...my last 3 helmets have been HJC's and I have been very happy.

If anyone else sees this and knows of a different helmet not mentioned yet, please let me know!

SnowGoer (not that I believe everything that they say) has a write up of the new Ski Doo helmet. They did have some problems with it but mentioned several times that it was a pre-production unit. It is on page 74 of their season premier issue.

What size helmet do you take in HJC? Just curioius because I am in a XXL HJC right now.

Ah , a kindred spirit. I also where a XXXL helmet. Maybe we should start a club for fatheads LOL?

Dave :jump:

Well I'll be darned! There are more options, and I have been misinformed on the Scorpion sizing. I posted this same question over on HCS and got some different responses. I learned the following:

1. Arctic Cat also offers a helmet with a drop-down shield called a Crosstec.
http://www.arcticcat.com/snow/pdf/catalog/200735.pdf
Has a built-in LED flashlight in the chinguard too! That would be really cool for hands-free map reading and trailside repairs! Also a LED taillamp ala BV2S, and breathguard seems more normal, and a $300ish pricetag instead of the nearly $500 from Doo. Sort of a modular, but not really. Very unique. The graphics all suck for Yamaha riding, but they show a plain black one for less money in their price list, so maybe I can get a jet black without all their goofy graphics. They only go up to 2XL, but people say they run big. I'm gonna check this one out in person, even if it means going into a Cat dealer....shhhuuuudddeeeerrrrr....

2. I've learned that the Scorpion EXO 400 DOES come in a 3XL, but the 700 maxes at 2XL. The dealer I stopped at told me no 3XLs at all, but I do see the size listed on their website. So I'm gonna search some different dealers and see if I can't find a 3XL 400 somewhere and see how that one fits.

3. The Polaris one on their site looks suspiciously like the Ski-Doo standard modular, and they talk about a "mask system" with multpile quick release mounting points. Sounds like the Ski-doo wet diaper darth vader thing to me....not interested.

Thought I'd share the info for others who may be following this post.

Looks like I'll still be shopping Scorpion and Arctic Cat to see if one of those will work for me...

3XL helmets are a bitch to find. As far as that EXO helmet goes I think it looks fine other that the flip down sun visor. Its just like the ski-doo modular which is different than the BV2s. The center slot for the flip down lets snow dust in on the modular. The BV does not have that slot and works perfect. Maybe they improved the EXO and there is something I don't see in the picture? Just my $.02.
