Set screws on the track shaft bearing

I snapped a torx bit off in mine last night while changing the bearing and I had to drill it out. Do I need both or is one ok?
 
I would certainly feel safer with both set screws installed. Sounds like you have it apart now so why not buy a new bearing for the peace of mind.

I suppose if money is an issue you could drill and tap the set screw hole to the next size larger set screw?
 
I snapped off the torx bit taking the old one out. I installed the new one already with one set screw. I was hoping to ride this weekend but I can't get a set screw before next week.
 
Next week? You do not have to order the set screw from a dealer. Any good hardware store should have the set screw.
 
I was to suggest to search to you screw bin & find any one that fits in for the time being; cut to lenght as needed.
 
ditto hardware store . probably wont be a torx , it will be an allen set screw . off top of my head probably m5 .
 
the stock TORX screw has a SMALL point on the end where it meets the shaft to bite into better,you might not find the same at the hardware.it may hold tight it may not! :dunno:
 
well the ntn aftermarket bearing i picked up from the dealer has only one set screw in it so cant see riding with one being a problem
 
You could "dimple" the shaft with a drill so that the set screw has more bite. In any case you will probably be fine for a weekend ride until you get your second set screw next week. Have fun!!!
 
I would just hit Home Depot or Lowes and pick up a set screw (roughly the same size. I am sure they only have standard sizes, not metric). Drill and tap a new hole in the bearing collar. Machine down the end of the new set screw so it resembles how the factory screw looks.

I know I'd feel safer having 2 set screws in there...even though Blue ER says his aftermarket NTN bearing only has one. Just for my own piece of mind.

1 is fine as long as your bearing is kept in good condition...meaning that it doesn't get all rusty/corroded and seize up on you and start slipping on your shaft and damaging it, keep it well greased up and you'll be fine till spring then just replace it for the new season, I doubt if you'll be able to find the proper size except your YAM dealer that sells them $3.00/ea CDN LOL

Be careful not to over tighten them (set screws) my buddy snapped the collar on 1 and had to replace the bearing which was BRAND NEW :o| and make sure to use red LOKTITE on them.
 
Don't plan on taking it off again without using a torch if you use red locktite. Always use blue on anything that you want to take apart again. Red is for extreme cases like press fit bearings and such.
